Why does anyone buy the Respironics PR System One????

Post by ww » Mon Nov 23, 2009 8:07 pm

Why does anyone buy the PR System One without software of any kind being available??????? It is 70 miles to the DME and they have never read my card and the sleep doctor does not know how!!!! I have waited 3 months to buy the Respironics PR System One, but I need to decide now what to do for a second machine.

I have a nearly 2 year old M Series Auto with Aflex and Humidifier which I have learned to live with it's shortcomings and was hoping for something better this time.

Is it true that there is still no software available to read the data to your computer? At least the M Series sorta works if you don't sleep too long or read the data on Sundays and Thursdays to keep it from skipping a day!!!!!!!!!

Because they have to have the latest and greatest, even if it's not. That's more important to them than their treatment. Jim

The software is coming. They are working on it.

In the mean time, a daily reset will get you some data off the LCD screen that can be plotted in a spread sheet.

I won't have one UNTIL I can get the software to read MY data. Estimates reported so far is that the patient version of the software won't be out until some time in 2012. Come on, how far down on the list can this be. All they have to do is to take the pressure setting feature out of the current 2.0 version.

At Respironics, patients are far down on the list, they don't even exist. In the computer indrusty, software promised but not written is called Vaporware. There was one point in time when we believed in vaporware, remember Commodore,,, Jim

But I truly believe it is coming.

Personally, I would not consider a PR department to be a reliable source.

In an earlier thread: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=46842&p=421290#p421290 I found out that Encore Viewer 2's current stage was in Alpha. I have not heard back from them about 64bit Windows 7. If I had access to Encore Pro 2 software I would have purchased a PR System One Auto as my main machine while my REMStar Auto M with A-Flex would be my backup. Maybe when they get Encore Viewer 2 out they will have a card reader for the Express Card slot on Notebooks instead of the PCMCIA reader.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I had hoped that someone had found a way to read the machine detailed results for a week or so at least comparable to the data that is available through Encore Pro and James' Analyzer from the m-series auto machine. That is how it should be, but that day may never arrive for those of us that depend on these machines and software to tell us how our therapy is going from week to week!

If anyone comes upon a solution, please e-mail me or post a p/m and I will buy a machine this week!

I personally would not buy a PR System One machine until software for the user is actually available. "We're working on it" wouldn't be good enough for me.

If the PR System One presented better LCD info (by that I mean showing overnight AHI data the way ResMed machines have done for years, instead of only weekly/monthly averages ) I wouldn't be as concerned about the lack of obtainable (one way or another) software.

In designing the new "System One" machines, Respironics had a chance to design in more informative LCD data for the user to see. But, they chose not to bother to do that. So, I would choose not to bother buying their machine yet.

There are other fine brands out there which provide both excellent treatment AND the kind of data via LCD and/or software that make it easier for the user to see how the therapy is going.

I received an email from them last week saying that they expect the patient software to be available early in 2010.

They had that chance we they designed the M series. Think there is a message there? Why would they make it so it's not backwards compatible? What they need is a USB memory stick.

Here's the message - "it's in the mail".

Have another fantasy - this one ain't comin true.

I'm from Missouri - show me the software or show me another brand.
