CPAP Mask on Cable TV Series?

Post by 13thOwl » Mon Nov 23, 2009 10:18 am

I was probably only one of a handful of people who watched "The League" on FX this week. During this weeks episode, Ruxin ends up staying at a spa with some friends and claims the second bed for his own. He then pulls out a cpap machine and mask. His stoner friend Taco called it a "night bong". Anyone else ever notice any "hosers" on TV or film?

I didn't see it, but was told Tony Soprano wore a cpap mask in one episode. We don't have cable tv, so don't keep up with tv land.

Close. It was Tony's Uncle Junior who was diagnosed with sleep apnea on The Soprano's. When Tony saw Uncle Jun wearing his mask, Tony asked, "So, how many MiGs you shoot down today?"

It was mentioned on "The Office," too. I think Angela has sleep apnea (but maybe it's Dwight).

About 2-3 weeks ago on The Biggest Loser they were doing quick scenes of each contestant in their bedroom and I noticed next to Allen was a mask and hose draped over his headboard.

Most of the Biggest Losers contestants have sleep apnea. Respironics tests 'em at the beginning so what you see are a bunch of CPAP newbies put thru grueling physical endurance activities with hugely changed eating -- I cannot imagine how challenging that must be, CPAP and all that other new stuff...insane.

I just remembered another recent instance of apnea being mentioned on tv. In a recent episode of Grey's Anatomy, a premie was being cared for in the hospital, and the doctor keeping an eye on the baby was advised to keep an eye out for "apneic episodes."

The more exposure apnea gets, the better.
