Don't they have a residual strong odor? Or do you find it goes away quickly?
araminta, I have found absolutely no problem whatever with this daily traveling cleaning regimen. I even use the wipes at home when using a FFM cushion. Clean it on weekends with mild detergent---but daily cleaning with wipes leaves no detectable odor whatever.
DeVilbiss IntelliPap Std Plus with Smartflex; Transcend miniCPAP & Everest2 w/humidifier & batt for travel. UltraMirage FFM; PadACheeks; PaPillow. Using straight CPAP at 13.0/passover humidifier. AHI consistently < 1.5. Began CPAP 9/4/08.

Has anyone had any difficulty taking in your carry-on on the plane?

Thanks!
Not anymore. A long time ago I would have to prove that my CPAP unit was what I said. Now they just swab it, as others have mentioned. Allow yourself a little time to go through the screening.

Every now and then a gate agent complains that it is extra luggage. It does not count as luggage. It is medical equipment that must accompany the passenger. Normally all you need to do is explain it is medical equipment and they will leave you alone. Not always.

I did recently purchase a luggage tag that explains this for those days that I'm struggling with slurred speech. (Due to a neurological issue, I get the symptoms of being drunk without the "fun" of the buzz). You can find this at:

But you certainly do not need to have it. It is rare that I need to explain it.

I keep a copy of my prescription for the cpap machine and mask in my bag at all times. I understand in the past you needed this if in some airports secondly if something gets broken or damaged I have my script and can pick up what I need as long as I can find a supplier.

I take my machine with me to work every third day. I purchased a second humidifier chamber to keep at work so I wouldn't have to take it back and forth. When I do travel other than for work, I usually put some crumpled up paper towels in the humidifier chamber to pick up any moisture that may be in there. I had one machine get moisture in it and the paper in the humidifier chamber will guarantee nothing gets into my machine. I know it's kind of over kill but all it takes is a drop or two of water and your machine is dead.

Gerry, thanks for the tip about the crumpled up paper towels in the humidifier chamber. This is a real time-saver and definitely a machine-saver.

Thanks!!!
Barbara
