Newbie

Post by oldgrammie » Wed Nov 18, 2009 9:23 am

Hi everyone I am a newbie have had my machine and mask for five days and I have no idea if I like it or not. I love the feeling of the air I breathe but find that by morning the mask is so uncomfortable. My eyes feel tired as though I have been wearing my glasses for so long I just want to take them off and close my eyes. I wake up during the nite but try to endure until I go back to sleep. I have no leaking at beginning of nite but when I wake up to change positions it will cause some leakage and I have to adjust the mask. I think it is safe to say my face hurts when I get up and I certainly do not feel energized as people say I would. I hope this is all normal for a newbie. Thoughts or tips?

Welcome! How long have you been at your CPAP therapy? I think your problems sound typical for folks starting out. It does get better though. Could you fill out your user profile for us? It will help to see what equipment you have, etc. The User Profile tab is at the top left of the home page...click there...and then tab around until you find 'edit equipment'. There you can list your mask, machine...and all that. Again, welcome.

Hi, welcome to the forum. I'm a newbie, having just passed the 30 day mark, and yes, it does get better. Your body and mind need to get used to all this new stuff.

Mask fit and adjustment was my biggest challenge. If you list your cpap and mask on your profile, others who have that same equipment may be able to give you specific tips.

I have a little notebook by my bed, and when I wake up, I jot down what it was that woke me up, eg. mask uncomfortable, sound of leaks, "rainout" of water in the hose, etc. I found I had to tackle each problem one at a time, and there are lot's of helpful suggestions here.

And if you can afford it, there are comfort items that make it easier, like a Papillow, hose heater, hose hanger, padacheeks. Or homemade variations of these. Read the yellow lightbulb on the right top, or so a search for a specific topic, and ask questions. Good luck to you.

If your eyes feel tired than the air is probably blowing up at your eyes at night. A small leak with dry air blowing up at your eyes will mess you up.

Please triple check mask fit especially for any possible air blowing up.
