Need Fool-Proof Method for Keeping Off My Back
I don't have complete confidence in my shirt rigged-up-with-tennis-balls-down-the-back. Need something more certain.
Re: Need Fool-Proof Method for Keeping Off My Back
I had a decades long ingrained habit of backsleeping so I also needed something foolproof. I can tell you what I wore for 15 months that was foolproof. I wore a CamelBak hydration pak ( http://www.camelbak.com/en/sports-recre ... packs.aspx ) similar to this one:brain_cloud wrote:I don't have complete confidence in my shirt rigged-up-with-tennis-balls-down-the-back. I did not want to put water in it for fear of a leak. You do need something in it to give it some bulk. Maybe balled up newspapers will work. I took an emtpy rigid 20-ounce water bottle and stuffed it into the bladder. With this setup, I could not roll onto my back and it was lightweight and comfortable enough that I wore it nightly for 15 months. The good news is eventually I was trained and did not need the CamelBak. Occasionally, I will wear the pack for a couple of nights to reinforce the training.
I also suggest you consider sleeping in the Falcon position viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43663 .
Good luck.

I don't blame you for not fully trusting the tennis balls. I doubt they'd be foolproof for me either. One tip I read on here that I've noted in case I ever need it is to sleep with a backpack on, maybe stuffed with a pillow. My only reluctance is that I flip flop from side to side a lot. The backpack would require me to sit up every time I flipped, and I'm concerned that would waken me even more and introduce more problems. But one who sleeps relatively still might consider the backpack.

Yeah, the ball doesn't work that well. After my dog chewed my mask and hose, I used the ball while waiting for my new equipment. Woke up a few time on my back LOL!rooster wrote:I had a decades long ingrained habit of backsleeping so I also needed something foolproof. I can tell you what I wore for 15 months that was foolproof. Rooster, can you switch from side to side with the CamelBak? The pillow shirt that carbonman posted seems better suited to keeping you on one side. It doesn't seem clear how one could go from one side to the next.

Hi Brain_Cloud
You can do a search on the Forum for Zzoma
and also check the link
http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 105027.htm
pretty much the same as Carbonman links to.
It seems to me that fastening your hands to the edge of the bed (with a quick release) would be the simplest and cheapest solution. Any movement towards your back would be prevented, or wake you up.
Whatever you do, the problem is certainly solvable.
Good luck.

Again, though, I'm not sure how one is supposed to switch from one side to the other.brain_cloud wrote:This one actually looks like it would work.

I've never heard of the shirt/tennis ball option, but I have heard of putting a tennis ball in the 'panty' part of a pair of panty hose to place on your back and then tieing the legs in front to hold it in place. Cheap option that would allow one to turn from side to side? I've only heard of this ... never have tried it.

Re: Need Fool-Proof Method for Keeping Off My Back
I was thinking about this a little more today. I would make sense to have something on the back that would act as a subtle rocker. It doesn't have to be big. But if it was curved, one would not be able to stay on their back. It would allow you to roll to your other side without too much disruption. Just a thought for our members who are little more handy than me.

Have met a few patient's on the Zzoma device....they love it.
Good luck.

Not to make fun of what is really a very serious consideration but a mental image jumped into my head:
There are two rules of life. The first is don't tell everything that you know.

Hi brain_cloud,
I have a friend (male) who wears a backwards bra at night, stuffed with tennis balls. Seriously!

Bought a Zzoma. We'll see how it goes. My sleeping self can be pretty persistent.

Hi Brain_cloud and all
Many of us have Gastroesophegal Reflux Disease, as well as all the rest of the stuff we have.
With GERDS, and the position of the lower esophagal sphincter, it is advisable to sleep on the left side only. This presumably will minimise acid reflux whilst asleep.
So for people like me turning from one side to another is not an option.
Just thought I would mention this.
Good luck with the Zzoma, Brain_cloud , please let us know how it works out for you.
cheers
