Need to know when to use oxymeter
I am a newbie still and now that i got my mask and pressure where I now am getting positiive sleep results. Ready to learn more. Now I would like to know when and why one makes a decision to use an oxymeter.

I made the decision to get a pulse ox mostly out of curiosity soon after getting my machine. After using if a few times I realized it provides meaningful data reinforcing software data and providing visual data what occurs with apnea events. I also have asthma and have found the pulse ox useful in asthma management. However, I think having machine software is first priority. I'm not sure the pulse ox will give clear data w/o machine software. I take the software data via computer and pulse ox reports via printed reports to my sleep MD appointments.rise&shiner wrote:I am a newbie still and now that i got my mask and pressure where I now am getting positiive sleep results. I bought the CMS 50-E from SEmedicalsupply.com and am happy with it. It's a little quirky to operate and download the data, but it does the job, and was $140. I used it a few times before I got my cpap, to see what my baseline was. One of these nights, I'll clip it on to see what my oxygen saturation is now, especially during apneas. But since my AHI is under 5 most nights, it's not a high priority right now.
I agree with elg5cats, that the ResScan software and card reader gives you more useful information.

Re: Need to know when to use oxymeter
Once nice thing about oximetry data is you can use it to confirm machine software event data, and end up more confident than you would be with either individually. In the image below, one hour of machine data is set above the same hour of oximetry data.

One thing I don't like about this oximeter is the inability to export the data into something like Excel which would allow you to group and manipulate the data instead of simply viewing one session at a time.
