Re: Aaargh--information overload...help! (1 of 3)
Call your prescribing physician's office and ask them for recommendations to a DME. Also call your insurance carrier and ask them who their preferred providers are, and what their reimbursement policies are if you purchase out of pocket online.
I personally have found brick and mortar DME's worthless and expensive. I want to advise you to just order off https://www.cpap.com, but I don't know your insurance/financial situation. If you can't afford to do this out of pocket and wait for a reimbursement which may not be 100%, then you may have to go to the DME your insurance recommends.
Good luck!
Barbara

If you have to go with a brick and mortar DME... try to go with a mom and pop shop... one that doesn't have locations all over the place. For some reason they tend to have a better track record, even though they might not have the selection that you want.

Welcome aboard, Secret Agent Girl. You're in good hands here.
At the risk of contradicting Barbara, your physician may not have much experience with CPAP, so his/her office's response to your question might be the "easy" answer for them, but not the right answer for you. Yes, it's worth asking, but then you should research the DME and be prepared to walk out if you're not comfortable doing business with them.
The fact that you have the prescription in your hand is a big plus. That gives you the power to vote with your feet (and walk out).
Just curious, have you seen the full report from your sleep study? It's very informative and gives you valuable information about how severe your apnea is and how you should approach your treatment.
I'm new at this too and really don't "like" having a plastic thing strapped to my face, but I understand how critical it is and am willing to tough it out. You're starting out right by asking questions.
I think you'll be interesting to have around. Your 1 of 3 / 2 of 3 / 3 of 3 posts are intriguingly goofy. But they show an honestly confounded state of mind.

My co-pay rental for my dumb (dataless) bottom of the barrel CPAP was $890, I coulda bought it outright for about $350 -- wish I'd known that from the gitgo, I 'd have bought it myself. I was so muddle-headed following diagnosis, they coulda sold me anything...come to think of it, they did!

What I did when I changed DME's... because I didn't know that I had a choice the first time around.
I decided what I wanted... then called around to the DME's until I found one that would... 1.) work with me and 2.) get me what I wanted.

Hi Secret Agent Girl
Go get into your Secret Agents Outfit, sneak into where you had your sleep study, spend time checking out all the masks, with pressure if your secret stuff is strong enough, find out what mask suits you best at this stage, sneak out, take your Secret Agent Girl Outfit off, and relax.
Then check out different DME's for the mask you want, or get it from cpap.com or cpapauction.
Make sure you get a data capable machine.
cheers
Mars
or you could just call the sleep study place and go see them.
PS Say hello to Lasalle Avenue for me
