My third mask in a month

Post by John O » Wed Nov 11, 2009 6:54 pm

I began with a nose piece a few weeks ago mask but I wasn't happy with the dry throat problem so I was given a full face mask to try last night. That was really bad. At about 2:15 AM, the thing got out of adjustment and air was blowing all over the place which kind of freaked me out. Today I exchanged it with a Swift LT pillows mask which looks to be my solution. I will have to go back with the chin strap, but If I can get a good night's sleep, I will make that compromise.

Keep trying to find the perfect mask it is worth it. I went through 5 masks in 3 weeks before I found one the 6th has worked for me. If you are truly a mouth breather mu suggestions would be to keep trying a ff mask until one works. If a chin stap can work for you and you wear a nasal mask with out the leakage consider yourself lucky.
I felt like I was suffocating. Goodluck on your sleep journey.

If you're going to give up after a few hours with a new mask (which one please?) even before someone's had a chance to help, you may not get very far in this enterprise. Masks come in all sizes and shapes, as do we, but not knowing what you tried, or what else might have been a problem, it's kind of hard to comment. Come back with more info and let people give you a chance.

The mask I had on last night was over the nose and mouth. I don't have it anymore so I don't know the model number. The fact that it had air blowing on my face was kind of unnerving.
Everyone has a different story on what works for them. I know people who never were able to accept wearing a mask. I did try to make it work but it became very frustrating at 2:15 in the morning. The mask had shifted somehow and air was going everywhere. I am hoping the mask I have now will work with the pillows. Generally I breathe through my nose so I hope this will work. The person I work with has other options if this fails to work. I had sinus surgery in 2001 and that has helped at night quite a bit.

I used the new Swift LT pillow unit last night and I got a very good night out of it. 6 hours of uninterrupted sleep with no ill effects. I am pretty happy about that. There is some leakage where the hose connects to the mask but I suppose that's pretty normal.

Great news. It can take a while to find a workable mask. This is quite normal.

Thanks Gary,
The Swift enabled me some peace last night. I really felt good. The Samaritan health provider people are very helpful and they truly encourage me. I think the REMstar control box with it's data processer is amazing.
