Question for all you Pros

Post by Susancarol » Tue Nov 10, 2009 8:46 am

I have been using my c-pap machine (ResMed S8 Escape II) and my Quattro Cpap full face mask for 4 weeks now. Because of this forum and the reading that I did before getting my equipment, I went in with a great attitude. I just love my machine and mask and am getting a much better sleep than I have ever in my life. Last night I slept all night and work very refreshed and ready to face the day.
The question that I have for you pros out there is - my husband said that I am still snoring some. Usually towards morning. My setting is at 7 - should I increase it to 8 and see what happens or just leave well enough alone.
Thanks for your help!
I appreciate your input!
Sue

Are you reading any of the nightly statistics in your LCD screen?
Are you using EPR (exhale relief) in your machine? If so, what setting?

Two things I'd try is "nasal cleansing" (rinsing/irrigation) and the bump in the pressure you suggested.

I'm still a newbie of 3 weeks, but here is some of my experience: I have more apneas if I sleep on my back, if I'm stressed, or nose is congested. They are sometimes spread through the night, or sometimes clustered around 4-7 am, which I understand is the highest REM sleep. Sometimes there is a correlation to leaks, but sometimes not. When I raised my pressure, I got less apneas, but more gas.

I write down the numbers from my LED every morning, and I have ResScan software so I can look at graphs and numbers. They are endlessly fascinating to me, but I'm still learning what it all means.

If you can share your machine settings and results, the pros will have some suggestions, I'm sure.

Glad you're feeling good.

The setting to stop my apnea is lower than the setting to stop most of my snoring. I recommend increasing pressure and learning at what setting will stop most of the snoring. Your dh will appreciate.

Still, you will find that over the long term there will be times when you are congested, sick, exhausted, etc. that you may still snore. What worked for me was to increase to stop the snoring.

Wulfman:
Thanks for your reply. Sorry, but I don't know if I am using the exhale thing or not. Don't know what it is. Also, I don't know if my machine give me any information or not. I'll have to check into that.

They screwed you - they gave you an non data capable machine - you need an Elite to control your therapy intelligently. If you can bring it back and tell them you want a REAL MODERN Data capable machine not an old clunker. It should not cost you more if you have insurance.

OOPS!!! I mis-read that (or didn't read it close enough). I was "thinking" Elite II. Thanks, BlackSpinner.

And, I second what she suggested. (even though at a pressure of 7, you probably don't "need" exhale relief)
