An update on BJ....not CPAP related

Post by yawn » Sat Sep 24, 2005 12:17 pm

I just read the latest update on BJ and it's not looking hopeful. They are now saying that the next 24 tro 48 hrs. will tell them if he's going to survive. The doctors are not hopeful.

For those of you who were kind enough to say prayers for a total stranger, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are angels. It's so sad to think that this boy is going to lose his fight after struggling for so long. My focus is on his Mom today because I've been in her shoes. I was lucky in that my son survived and my son's journey wasn't nearly as long and hard as hers is. If BJ is going to die, I hope he does so with no pain.

Thank you again for your support.

Amy,

Don't give up hope yet. As long as there is breath, there is hope. Sometimes things really do look darkest before the dawn. Let's just pray that's what is happening in this case.

I guess it's time to turn up all the burners on this one and say as many prayers for BJ and his family as one can muster up. I am not counting him out yet and please don't do that yourself either. Positive vibes, prayers, anything along those lines is what he needs right now. Just don't lost faith. It ain't over till the fat lady sing, and I haven't even warmed up my old pipes yet...

I had a look at the website Amy posted and if I may just quote BJ himself:

"When Christ calls us to follow Him, He calls us to come and lay down our lives and to obey Him and share His name with the peoples of the world, no matter what the cost. Its time that we as the Christ followers of this country respond to this call and realize that the cross IS worth it, and forget the cost."

BJ is just 16 y.o. and he has found the ultimate truth to why we are here.

I will pray for BJ to recover, but he is a winner no matter what happens.

Lyn,

I had written a reply to that on an inaccurate reading of what you wrote. Since then, I realize you went to the web site and quoted BJ. I am taking this post and removing what I wrote as I was wrong and misread your words. I apologize.

And I agree with you that this boy is a winner, an amazingly strong and very well adjusted young man. It would be a shame for humanity if someone like this has to leave us so early. I don't know BJ personally, but after reading what he himself has said, it only proves that he is well beyond his years in maturity and intelligence. I will have to say a few more prayers for him in the hopes of a miracle occurring. Who knows, maybe those 24-48 hours will bring good news instead of bad? We can only pray for that to happen, so I will.

Amy,

I am so, so sorry to hear that. If you see the family if you go to the wake/funeral, please let them know how we all were praying for him. Now my prayers will be for the family to stay strong and be able to get through this, and the future, as best as humanly possible after such a horrendous tragedy. I am sincerely heartbroken for them all.

Thank you for doing whatever you could for BJ and his family. You are a loving and caring woman who really went out of her way to help. God bless you AND the Higgins Family.

Amy, I had been following BJs story on the website you provided and had been checking it often and doing my version of praying for him!
I was so sad to see this morning, that he lost his fight.
Sometimes I think that God takes the strong young kids like that for a bigger reason than we can understand. Maybe BJ was needed in the spiritual realm for a specific purpose.
Maybe thats just one way to try to justify how a merciful God can do this to a child, and to the child's family?
Thank you for sharing though - they were very brave to share their story with so many - I won't soon forget them.

BJ didn't lose his fight. He believed that to be absent from the body is to be present w/His Lord....ecstatically happy and enjoying life like never before. His family are the ones who will feel loss, but not hopelessness as they know the time they have on this earth is like a blink of an eye compared to the eternity they will have w/their son and God who they trust completely.

God gave me this new song sometime ago and I sang it to a young friend who was dying...whose faith was unshakeable and whose optimism about soon being home with the Lord of his life inspired many.

Home

Here I am
standing in your grace*
standing face to face
with you Father

Hand in yours
all my sin erased
knowing I belong with You

My life secure in Yours
my heart enclose in Yours
Your love shines through me!

And here I am
standing in Your grace
standing face to face
with You Father

Hand in Yours
all my tears erased
knowing I belong with You

Knowing that You love me
Knowing that You've called me
Knowing I belong ... with You....

Sorry I had to sign off quickly before to join my son and husband so left the explanation of the asterisk (*grace) hanging. BJ believed what the word of God says...that "it is by grace we are saved, not works, lest any man should boast"....He trusted in the finished work of Jesus Christ who took his sins and his punishment on the cross and offered him eternal life and relationship with God in exchange. It is a free gift given by our loving Creator.

Grace is often defined as God's unmerited favor...something we don't deserve and couldn't possibley earn. It is priceless. That God who is perfect made a way through His perfect sinless son for me, a sinner who can never be good enough to earn my way into having a relationship w/Him, is astounding and wonderful. He gave Himself for me and for all who choose to believe Him. There is no greater love than that. I know I deserve hell apart from Him. He offers me a wonderful eternal relationship w/Him instead, knowing in my own strength it would be impossible for me to be with Him.

BJ understood that and accepted Jesus as the Lord of his life and he is alive now because of it. That is the faith that BJ and his family have and that is why they are not hopeless over his earthly death. The bible says "it is appointed for men once to die and then the judgement" Those who place their complete trust in Jesus Christ's finished work on the cross are judged as "clean and redeemed through His blood". Those who insist on being judged based on their own good works and reject Christ are judged according to their "good works" and fall short below the high standard of holiness and perfection of Who God is. Those who are born twice (earthly birth and "born again birth" of the spirit as described in the gospel) die once (an earthly death) and live and abundant life forever with God. Those who are born once (earthly birth) die twice (the earthly death, followed by judgement and then the eternal death...being thrown into the fires of hell, separated from God for eternity because of their rejection of Him..an eternity of loneliness and torment) Its not a subject many like to discuss but Jesus, the One who laid down His life for mankind and is the greatest lover of mankind, spoke of a physical literal hell many times in the bible. Not hell on earth. Much worse. If one says there is no hell then he is saying Jesus was either a liar or a madman, because He loved people so much that He humbled Himself, coming to earth as a servant, warned us of hell and provided a way for us to have a wonderful eternity with Him. Looking forward to meeting BJ in person when God says its time to go! Terry

Terry

Wish I could proclaim the truth so well. As I live so far away in Australia, and had my one and only trip to the States in 1992 (only six weeks) I look forward to meeting you along with BJ in eternity.
