Aussie Hose Power Requirement

Post by luke » Thu Nov 05, 2009 5:38 am

Hi,
I ordered a heated hose from cpapusa but they were out of the power supplies (hose only).
Can anyone tell me what the voltage and current is of the OUTPUT of the supplied power
supply with their aussie hose? Input is 115V for here in the USA.

I want to shop around (probably Radio Shack) for a power supply that will work.
Also I may put a variable resistor in line with this power supply so I can turn up the heat or turn it down.

Thanks in advance..........Bill

The hose will take 12v, and draw 1 amp. The polarity is not important, but a proper connection is important. Take the hose alon to the store so you find the right plug to adapt the supply.
You could run it a little underpowered and cooler at nine volts if you want, some users have posted that recommendation here.
I have used a Radio Shack 12V supply for a couple of years now.

Good Luck,
TerryB

Here is the original power adapter that came with mine from Australia.

I find that with this adapter, you barely feel any warmth on the outside of the hose.

In fact, the manual says to put the hose in a bag to verify that it is producing heat!

Variable heat control isn't needed in these parts.

Remember that if you use a mask with a small hose extension you will need to cover that as well, for full rain out protection inside your mask.

Luke,

Here is what I bought in 2006 for my first aussie hose. The Radio Shack Adaptaplug "M" (part number 273-1716) is the one that fits the heated hose. The Radio Shack power adapter is #273-1776. I am not sure the parts numbers are still valid but they might be.

Last year I purchased a backup Aussie hose but so far I only use it for travel as the first one is still going strong. It has been used nightly and will be four years old in March. It has held up well.

I used the adapter that came with my aussie heated hose exactly once. The air was too warm for me. So I put the adapter away and commandeered a 9v adapter that hung around after a cordless phone died. Works fine.

Had I known cpapusa sold the hoses without adapters (and I wasn't going to use the stock adapter), I'd have got my hose from them. Still, it was rather neat to get a package from Australia. Make that two packages from Australia. The other was my ResScan 3.7 software.

Thanks guys for the info.....

Jeeper: You must have been reading my mind !
I just came from Radio Shack and your connector part number converts to
something else (Enercell® Adaptaplug™ M) on the RS website.
I think I am going to run it at 9 volts and .8 amp though.
I dont really have trouble with rainout but I just want to heat the air a little to make it
a bit more comfortable. I sleep in a cold room with an electric blanket and during the winter
it gets too chilly out here in Delaware.

Thanks again guys............Bill
