Resmed S8 Autoset Vantage questions

Post by tdehnke » Sun Nov 01, 2009 10:04 pm

Hi, I recently got a S8 Autoset Vangtage and have a couple questions:

- Can I get software for this (or does anyone have a reader & software for sale they don't need) - If so what version should I look for etc

- Is there a firmware version I should be checking on the machine to ensure it is up to date etc?

- This is a replacement for a S8 CPAP I had, so the autoset is new for me.. I was at 12.8 with my cpap.. what should I set my autoset to?

- Any tips or things to look out for with this unit?

- Is it worth upgrading to the Autoset II from this?

Thanks

You can do direct comparison between the two machines. I did at the above link, not sure if it will carry through.
The ResScan 3.7 software will work. The newer model is the AutoSet II. It is smaller, quieter and has newer exhalation relief. I have never used either so I cannot comment about whether these differences justify the additional expense.

Traditionally it is usually suggested that the minimum pressure be set somewhere near your other pressure. Generally within 2 cm. I would say 9 or 10 minimum would be a good place to start. Comfortable yet still within reach of your titrated pressure. See where it wants to be at most of the time. Maximum is going to depend on how you respond to pressure changes. Some people do okay with it maxed and others do better with a narrow window.

No way to check meaningful firmware version because even if not the "latest" there isn't anything you can do about it. Why did you get the Vantage instead of the newer Auto Set II? Any special reason?

Ahh, okay then, I understand now. Some ResMed users should chime in tomorrow with their personal thoughts.
I can't really say anything about the differences since I have never used either. They may not even be a concern for you. We don't always have to have the latest and fanciest toy to get good comfortable therapy..

Anyhow, I think you can use the same software if you wish. ResScan 3.7 should work on both. So if you do upgrade later, the software should still work.

Would a ResMed Vantage user please confirm that the 3.7 software will work? I can't seem to find exactly what I want to confirm.

From the software informational link
"This software works with S8 and S8 II machines. Version 3.7 is compatible with Microsoft Windows Vista."

Yep, and I use ResScan 3.7 on Windows2000 and my sleepturbo is ResMes Autoset Spirit (I).
I think I heared somewhere that in US the name is Autoset Vantage.

Ha! As long as you don't have Vista on your 'puter (I have Windows XP) even AutoScan 5.7 will work w/the Resmed S8 AutoSet Vantage.

Be sure to check the serial number at the bottom of the machine, particularly the first six digits which show year and month of manufacture. If it was made between early 2004 and early 2006, (200402xxxxx through 200602xxxxx) there is a recall, and you should be able to get a BRAND NEW machine.

EDIT: Serial numbers actually go up to 200603xxxxx

Go to the ResMed site,
http://www.resmed.com
and do a SEARCH for "recall". You should ultimately find the page
http://www.resmed.com/us/s8program/amr/ ... nc=aboutus
which will give the range of recallable serial numbers. If you are eligible, you should find a phone number at the bottom of the page. ResMed is very good about this; they don't particularly care WHERE you got the machine, but they DO insist that the trade-in be conducted by one of their distributors. If you don't have a DME which you use, ResMed will help to find one for you in your area to handle the exchange process. Good deals don't come better than this!

By the way, in addition to running on the ResScan software (currently v3.7), the S8 AutoSet Vantage (but NOT the S8-II) will also run on the excellent but discontinued ResMed AutoScan software (last v5.7).
