love the cpap pillow

Post by tiredlawstudent » Thu Oct 22, 2009 1:08 am

i dont know if anyone else uses it, but I tried the cpap pillow, it was weird at first (and I think I use it backwards) but it is great! It has space for the mask, and I really find it is better than a regular pillow b/c it doesnt shift or move the mast (im a side sleeper).

There are several speciality cpap pillows out there. Which did you try?

Anyone have any experience with the Psyche cpap pillow? I hadn't heard of it before but was on another forum surfing and found a reference to this pillow.

Glad you found a pillow that you like, lawstudent! Welcome to the board.

I haven't tried the one you mentioned, Carol.

I've been using this one (double-edge PAPillow) for several years. Love it:

TLS - That's the one I have, too. I also really like it, especially when I wear my nasal mask. I prefer my regular bed pillow when I wear nasal pillows.

TLS - Thanks for sharing this with us. I have been thinking about getting a special pillow but have not liked the ones that have been mentioned up till now. I think I would really like this one and plan on sending for one.

All these PAP pillows have very slight differences, it seems like getting the right one might be as difficult as finding the right mask. And most pillows are not cheap at $60 a pop

I found my regular memory foam neck support pillow would push my mask to the side when i turned onto my side and created a leak. So with my wife's help we set about creating my custom pillow. Memory foam is easy to cut and work with so we took apart the cover and set about coming up with a template on the memory foam. I rested my head on the pillow the mask on and turned from side to side while my wife drew a template with a marker around my head and mask.

I then made the cuts and created dips for the mask, we cut the cover to shape and stitched it all back up, viola a complete custom made CPAP pillow using my original memory foam pillow. Original cost around $20

I use a regular memory foam mask, no cutouts needed. I just position my face so my face and mask are hanging off the edge of the pillow. It was a slight change from my "normal" sleep position (which used to be smooshing my face into the pillow and pulling the covers up nearly over my head), and took a little skooching around to find the right angle, but once I'd done it a few times, it was perfectly natural. I now flop around and push the pillow backwards automatically, freeing my face, mask and hoses.

For those on a budget, my best buy is at Big Lots - $12 for a memory foam pillow. Then go to Goodwill and find an electric turkey carving knife. Unless your Grandma still has one. It's the best thing you can find to carve foam. Take it all home, and carve out all the divets you like. You're on your own creating custom pillow cases to hug those curves, however. I've heard other forum members just push the excess pillow case down through the divet and secure it underneath the pillow, with a safety pin or some other fastener.

Good luck to all!

I ordered mine from e-bay. Like you I'm a side sleeper. This pillow is a great asset to me. But I still have sleep with another pillow under neith to be comfortable. Even before I got this pillow I slept on 2 pillows.
