What is a good AHI on CPAP?

Post by dirk » Sun Sep 25, 2005 10:12 pm

Hey all.
I average an AHI of 7-8 (according to my machine) with a AI of .5-1.5 on my auto cpap. I was 80 before cpap. Is this good or bad?

Hi Dirk,

That's very good considering what you were before cpap. No more than "5" for an AHI would be even better, but you're doing great.

Actually, on any ResMed machine I've used (3 of them), I register an AHI at least a couple of full points above the AHI I get on the Puritan Bennett 420E Auto or the Respironics REMstar Auto. Don't know why, but doesn't seem to affect how I feel. Felt equally as good using the Spirit and getting a higher AHI (occasionally as much as 6 or 7) as I do using the other two brands and getting an AHI usually of 1.something.

It may just be something about my particular breathing pattern that caused the Spirit to register a few more "events" for me than the 420E or REMstar do. I didn't worry about it since I was just as rested as usual upon awakening.
