using smart card in different machine

Post by Catnapper » Mon Oct 12, 2009 5:56 am

I plan to be traveling soon, and am considering using my back-up machine since it is all packed and ready to go. Both machines are Respironics M series auto bi-pap w/ biflex, twins as far as I know. Will it work if I simply use my regular smart card while I travel? The back-up has a card too of course.

I keep and review my data on a weekly basis now, instead of the daily frenzy I did when I first started OSA therapy. Yes, I am obsessive and compulsive about it, just not the way I used to be. Anyway, I want to keep the data with the rest. I don't like the red lines in the usage area when I use the other machine, not that anyone cares these days.

Does anyone know if this will work? Just curious.

Certainly it should work but "When in doubt - try it out".

I used the same card and same machine when I traveled and lost a couple of days data.

I think removing and restoring the power so often did it. There were several sessions of just a few minutes (interpreted as a complete night on the data). I also changed time zones several times..that may have been a factor, too.

I experienced ALL of that without ever leaving home.

I was under the impression the time never got updated until the card is/was read by a computer. I don't think the machine has its own clock.

The question for me is whether the information on the card is also specific to the machine. If the machine recognizes something about itself, then this won't work.

As an example, I doubt that it would work if the machines were different, such as a regular auto-pap and the auto bi-pap. The prescription for pressures would be different because of the bi-level. Is the smart card smart enough to know that it is a different machine if they are basically the same kind of machine?

This question is no big deal, and I can report when I return from my trip. As I admitted, I have some amount of OCD over details. I just wondered if anyone had tried this before me.

Joanie,

You said both machines are "twins"........you'll be just fine (to use the same card in both machines).

It will record (to the card) which machine serial number it's recording from, but other than that, your downloads (reports) should look identical.

And, to Gumby's comment about the clocks........each machine has an internal clock that was set to GMT at the factory and will lose time, over time.

Is there anyway we can set the time ourselves?

The 'Sleep-link' card/cable and utility software isn't available, I suppose...

Edit: Meh, of course not. I really have to get my control freak tendency under.... control...?

Not readily. I've been trying to see if I can find/acquire it for the last 4 years. Some months back, I found the cable listed by a couple of medical supply houses (over $100), but I haven't pursued it yet. The software may be the toughest part to get. It's called UUT (Unit Under Test). If anybody has a copy they'll send me, then I'll try to get the cable.

When we were younger, it was having every carb jet, a timing light, and a screwdriver to tweak with . Now it's com cables and utility programs for CPAP machines! I guess I'll never grow up!

Growing old is inevitable, growing up is optional......

During a visit to my Mom, I was able to record from her M-series CPAP Pro on my M-series Auto with C-Flex smart card when I exchanged machines with her for several days to check her titration. Her card recorded the M-series Auto data just fine and my card showed the CPAP Pro data for those particular days in the middle of my Encore Pro report just fine when I downloaded the card to my computer as soon as I got back home.

Not one the user can set independently or even see.

In theory there is a clock (a timer) that we can't access - so what was the question?

Don't know if there WAS a question......but you made this comment.
GumbyCT wrote:I don't think the machine has its own clock.
Not theory......fact. We can't reset them because the idiots who designed the firmware and setup menus didn't allow for it. There IS a wafer battery (CR2032) on the PCA board (motherboard) and some day it will run out of juice. At that point, I believe the date will default to the BIOS date......or whatever it's called......like in a computer.
