Windows 7 and Encore Pro or Viewer

Post by 2flamingos » Fri Oct 09, 2009 12:28 pm

Does anyone know if Encore Pro or Viewer will work on Windows 7, 64 bit? Or if the fix will be as involved as with Vista 64? I don't want to keep the old XP machine around, but if I have to I will.

Encore Pro works fine on my Windows 7 64 bit setup. I am currently using RC1 (release candidate 1) version. You must follow the instructions Gregor posted for getting Encore Pro to work with Vista 64:
Postby Gregor on Sun Mar 22, 2009 2:11 am
If you have SQL previously installed, remove it.Reboot PC to ensure is gone.

copy all directories and files from CD to disk drive.
go to directory called /files/SQL 2005
delete SQLEXPR32.exe

go to : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... 465cdff1e7 scroll down and download file SQLEXPR.EXE with size 55.4 MB (both version in this file 32 and 64 bits.)
Copy downloaded file into /files/SQL 2005 and change name to SQLEXPR32.exe
Install SQL first using new SQLEXPR32.exe, then uninstall SQL Server from your system. You should be ready for EP with SQL integrated installation now.

run EP launcher
choose English

press button Install software

again choose language English

Press next

accept license

choose advanced - press next

press next - default directory will be used

Select features - tick both boxes - database software and encore pro - press next

should be greyed out "Install new server" - just press next

type new password (what do you like as password, same password in both fields)

press next
press install

you should see installing sql express dialog window - wait until it will finish (can take few minutes - be patient)

Then you should see EP installer when creating database tables and entries.Wait until you see Finish - press on Finish button.

all done !

run EP you should see on dialog window connecting to database.

To get MAKO DT-3500 Card reader working under Vista 64 bit go to : http://www.ais-magnetic.com/en/index.ph ... &Itemid=20
Download and install driver from link above, and you are ready to go.

good luck
Encore Viewer can be run on Windows 7 64 bit by downloading the XP MODE virtual machine software from Microsoft and installing it. There will be 2 downloads. One for the Virtual Machine and one is for a licensed copy of windows XP. Install this software and then you can start the XP mode and install Encore Viewer. It has been working well on my computer. XP Mode only is available for Windows 7 Professional or Ultimate versions. It will not work with Windows 7 Home Premium or less.

Keep the working XP machine, it's always nice to have a computer that really works.

Today was a good day, I now have all three of my Windows 7 machines running and sharing the network. I also got XP Pro corp with SP3 running under Windows 7 using VMware Workstation 6.5. Both O.S. can run at the same time on dual 24" LCD screens.

My problem now is no printer, it seems the Lexmark 6150 All-in-One, won't install correctly in Win 7, that also means I can't Print in XP thru Windows 7. I installed Windows 7 32 Bit, few apps use 64bit, I can't wait two years to use mine. Jim

All in all it was a good day, tomorrow the Laptop get the same effort as Moneypit 2 did today.....

I run a duel boot windows xp and windows 7. Windows 7 boots if I don't tell it at startup to boot xp that may be
one solution.

In addition to requiring Windows 7 "Professional" and above, Windows XP Mode requires CPU/mainboard support (and have enabled) hardware virtualization. As a result, a fairly new computer is required.

Thanks for all the responses - not sure which way I will go when I get the new laptop (comes in Tuesday). But will definetly keep all suggestions in mind.

Again, thanks!

Has anyone been able to follow Gregor's instructions?

I must be dense but I just can't seem to understand what he is saying. Also the only SQLEXPR.EXE download I can find is not the size he specifies and the link he gave doesn't seem to be good.

If you have been able to use EP with Vista 64 bit I sure would appreciate some help.

download sqlexpr.exe from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/deta ... layLang=en. On this page you have a choice of 2 files. sqlexpr.exe and sqlexpr32.exe. You want sqlexpr.exe.

Now copy all of the files on the Encore Pro CD to a new folder you have created on your hard drive. Find the folder called /files/SQL 2005 in that new folder and
delete SQLEXPR32.exe. Copy the file sqlexpr.exe that you have just downloaded. Paste that file in the folder you just deleted sqlexpr32.exe from. Rename sqlexpr.exe to sqlexpr32.exe. You now have the application sql Server 2005 Express which will work in 64 bit vista in the install files for encore pro. Since you renamed the file to sqlexpr32.exe, the installer program will recognize it as the file it is supposed to install. I think that you can just start the setup file from the folder you created, but I went ahead and copied that folder onto a blank cdrom disk to create a new Encore Pro install disk, which I used to install the program.

Basically, what you are doing is replacing the application file sqlexpr32.exe which only works on a 32 bit system, with sqlexpr.exe which works on a 64 bit system as well as a 32 bit system. Renaming it to sqlexpr32.exe lets the encore pro installation program install the file you want installed, instead of the original 32 bit file.

Let me know if I can help further.
Dale

Wow, Dale! That was an explanation that even I could follow! I love simple step by step instructions - set-up for dummies is what I need! Thanks! Will be giving it a try.

Just a follow-up on how the installation of EncorePro went on Vista 64 bit. I followed Dale's (Gregor's) instructions and it went smoothly.

I did have an issue when I tried to do a download from my smartcard. I kept getting a "Cannot connect to device" error box, but that was my own fault because I had forgotten to go to "System settings/preferences" and set the smart card as a USB device. After that it went fine and the program works fine.

Before I figured that out I had Windows do a search for an updated driver which it found and installed. The one I had first installed from http://www.ais-magnetic.com/en/index.ph ... =15:dt3500 was named 2800x64.sys and the one added by the windows driver update was the familiar 2800.sys. I don't know which is actually being used.
Both are present in "system32/drivers". The 2800.sys file is dated July 3 2009 (26.5 KB) and the 2800x64 file (26.3 KB) is dated July 23 2008.

I do get something I did not see in WInXP . The first time I run EncorePro I get an announcement saying something about needing to recompile ChartCd or something like that to get rid of the announcement. It won't show up again until my computer is shut down and restarted.

Encore Pro Analyzer works fine in the Vista 64 bit environment. EDIT: I did have to set the shortcut to the programs properties to "Run as administrator".

Sure hope Windows 7 will be be a no problem upgrade (if I decide to use my free upgrade option).

Thanks for the help.
