EncorePro v2.1

Post by ziggytosh » Sat Oct 03, 2009 2:48 am

Like the gadget-happy dork that I am, I ordered a new PR System One APAP through CPAP.com as soon as I knew they existed. I'm posted in a remote-ish spot overseas and it will be a while before the machine actually makes its way through the system to me. In the meantime, I'm trying to sort out the software so I can continue monitoring data once I get the new machine. Does anyone know where I can pick up (or preferably download) a copy of the Encore Pro 2.1 software -- which is apparently the only version that will work with this machine?

Also, I'll no longer need my current backup machine -- a Respironics M-series APAP pro. As noted above, shipping probably wouldn't be any faster than a month or so, but I'm happy to ship it if anyone's interested. It's a good machine with about 500 hours use on it (I rarely use it, having preferred ResMed until this fancy new PR just came out). It would be a great, cheap way to try out APAP if you're now on CPAP and wonder if the auto-adjusting would help improve your therapy. If you already have an APAP, this would be a good backup machine. These seem to go for 300 on Craigslist. I'm open to negotiation, but consider that price a starting point. I'd also be willing to cut the price quite a bit for anyone who can throw in the Encore Pro 2.1.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the software won't be available to us lowly peons who actually use the machine. (Nor are you likely to find it anywhere at the moment. EncorePro 2.1 will eventually be available only to providers (doctors and DMEs); from what I've read, there are no plans to release a patient version of the software.)

since you are posted abroad you may want to check locally or from a cpap supplier out of the u.s.

us sales are restricted but i'm guessing things may be more lax in other countries or out of country shipping will nix the restrictions. don't give up looking and let us know if you do come up with somthing.

i'm sure we would all appreciate a review posted to as to how you like/how your new machine works (when you get it)

regards

If you find it out of the US please let us know!! Right now no mater how good the PR series is I would not have one on a bet unless someone finds a source for the software to read the data. No software is a deal breaker for me. If Respirionics continues to withhold the ability for me to read the data my next machine purchase might be a ResMed as long as I can get the software out of the country. I can't beleave I said that!!! Well OK maybe a Sandman!!

I'm sure it will be leaked eventually. There will probably be some docs out there who don't agree with these silly restrictions and will find a way to make it available to those who are searching on the net. It's only a matter of time...

As soon as someone can get to a copy and is willing to share it with the right people, it will become more avaiable. Until then you might keep the unit you are trying to sell so you can get useful treatment and info. Odd's are it will be slow coming to the real users, secrets are secrets. I'd let them keep their NEW junk until it meant my requirements in the data area. Jim

Hi All,

I have to offer my two cents. I won't purchase a machine without software either. It appears some manufacturers fundamentally don't care about how we the patients feel our therapy would best be handled. We have to live with, headaches, feeling sluggish, stuffy noses and everything else that goes with this condition when things aren't right, but our input on how we would like to participate in our therapy gets ignored time and time again. I would like to get one of those new Respironics machines and have the money in hand, but I will not buy without software. Going to the doctor every six months and getting asked 10 questions and a blood pressure check isn't enough in my opinion to know how I am doing. Unfortunately, when most of us know the least at the beginning of our Sleep Apnea journey, that's when our insurance dollars get spent. If we are a big enough community that matters, then we all need to get vocal to make something happen. I suggest each of us takes the time to start writing the Presidents/CEO's and Chairman of these companies and let them hear our voices. I am not sitting passively by and I have done this myself and will continue to do this via email. While we are at it, people should also be writing the DOT for creating a rule the people can use approved CPAP's on airplanes", problem, no approved CPAPs exist. Sounds like effectively banning then while presenting it in the best possible light.Clearly, such a rule shouldn't be put in place until at least a couple of manufacturers have produced such machines, but that's another rant.

I checked around and have got a quote of $687 for the software. Is that the correct price, why is it soo expensive? The seller only ships within US and did'nt ask whether I was a medical practitioner or end user.

I think that if this new PR System One machine really takes off, eventually someones going to figure out a way to translate that gibberish data from the SD card.. its just sooo annoying to wait for it.

I wonder if someone could make headway by taking their SD card to a DME, getting a print out of everything from the card, and then taking the card back home and comparing the data files to the print out information. Thats probably too advanced for most of us though I suppose.

Unfortunately shambharwani, I think thats probbably the correct price. Its a shame its so expensive.

There is an interesting - well, not really very interesting, and not really very well done - EncorePro 2 tutorial now online:

http://webinar.respironics.com/webinars ... torial.swf

Designed for physician office training, there's only a very quick glimpse at detail data displays.
Well, actually, just the "sleep therapy long term trend" page, which most of us don't even bother looking at.
No display of the actual nightly detail data at all.
Guess that shows where their focus is. Or isn't.
And where they think physician interest should - or shouldn't - be.

EDIT: the file is dated 20 August 2009
EDIT: you may need to give it a while to load

I would say that we have no need for most of what that program will do and therefore it would be a waste of money.

Not like this hasn't been said before but let us hope they will come out with a patient version for under $100 (or less).

My biggest fear is the Encore Everywhere they will be pushing that will do away with the cards and require a subscription to view your data online. We all know what happens when you subscribe to a magazine. It prob won't even be offered to the patient but just the doc & DME, go figure.

Long Live Covidien

I heard from a friend posted in overseas that there is a software firm in India or Singapore created a software that could read the data cards from PR machines and creates customized reports for both doctors and patients. Has anyone heard about this?
