James... there is an advantage of being able to get the data in order to know if there is a problem. Not having to spend as much time in the sleep lab or merely guessing as to whether a change worked for us or not or a medication impacted our sleep or not.jfalek wrote: I have been using a ResMed Escape I for the last 5 years and just became aware of the Elite II and Escape II. I know that my DME carries the Escape II, but is there any real advantage of getting (fighting for) an Elite II? Do you know of any site (I've been trying to find) which describes the differences between those two devices?
Thank all of you for any advice and direction ahead of time,

Re: Newbie waiting for Rx for my equipment
James, you'd be able to view your overnight data (AHI and leak info) in the LCD window of the machine itself, if you had an Elite or Elite II. I'd get the Elite II. It's newer and has the "Easybreathe" technology in addition to "EPR" for nice pressure relief when exhaling.
As cflame1 mentioned, being able to see the data can be useful.
The Escape and Escape II do not provide that kind of data. The machines with "Escape" in their name provide only "hours of use" (compliance) info. Useless info to us users.

Do you know if there are any web pages or PDFs which shows this difference between the Elite II and the Escape II? I'd like to provide it to the insurance company.
Thank you,

Re: Newbie waiting for Rx for my equipment
That is a great site - but it does not help me understand the differences in the some of the key features when looking at ResMed Elite II and ResMed Escape II -- there were no differences in the comparison. Are there any other places to look online?ozij wrote:https://www.cpap.com/cpap-compare-select/CPAP
Chose which machines you want to compare.
O.
Thanks,
James

Re: Newbie waiting for Rx for my equipment
What do you consider the KEY differences???
Did you click on the Elite II at the top of the comparison page to read further about it? Did you also click on the Escape II at the top of the page and read further about it? The comparison page is the first step.
For instance on the Escape II page:
Machines In This Product Line
S8 Elite II CPAP Machine
Advanced Software Support
Fully customizable, the S8 Escape II has reminders for accessory replacements like your mask or machine filters. Take advantage of the remote downloading capabilities with the ResScan Data Card which provides usage data that helps you monitor compliance. (Like we don't have the slightest idea how many hours we slept w/it that night???)
From the Elite II page:
The Easy-Breathe Technology is a new level in comfort and quietness. Use Version 3.5 or greater ResScan Software to check therapy effectiveness, compliance data, and periodic trends.
Take advantage of the remote downloading capabilities with the ResScan Data Card which provides comprehensive efficacy and usage data that helps you monitor critical trends on a breath-by-breath basis. The S8 Elite II allows for complete tracking and easy monitoring of patient therapy and compliance.
And a plug for cpap.com's service:
"You all were amazing. My new CPAP machine was at my house the morning after it was ordered. You had sold my husband the wrong cable (part his fault part the fault of your rep) and it blew up my old machine. You accepted your partial guilt and replaced my machine right away and for free as long as I returned the burned out machine to you. Thanks for all of your help. You are much cheaper than the provider in my sleep doctor's office. That is a big help to someone like me facing many medical conditions."
Any more you want to know I suggest that you help yourself and READ about both the Elite II and Escape II yourself to decide on the KEY differences important to YOU.

Wow - I am new to this forum and I thought that I had asked my question respectfully. I apologize for anything that I wrote that caused you to write with such condensation. I did not mean to ask any stupid question nor did I mean to insult any reader of this forum. Nor did I mean to denigrate the good name of cpap.com in my comments.Slinky wrote:What do you consider the KEY differences???

I have been looking on the web for information on the Elite II and Escape II over the last two weeks but had not found anything specific beyond one machine using the ResMed 3.5 software and the other machine using the ResMed 3.7 software. As I am unfamiliar with both software programs, I did not (and still do not) understand the differences. Fortunately, rested gal and cflame1 wrote that the Elite II had "overnight" data and the Escape only maintained compliance data. That was very helpful to understand, but I wanted to see if there was anything more specific. Therefore, I asked a follow-on question about the differences between the Elite II and Escape II. ozij recommended that I look at the comparison page on cpap.com. I performed a comparison between those two machines on the web site and commented back to the forum that while the site was great, the comparison did not show any differences (beyond the difference in software versions).
Regardless of using my dollars or trying to convince an insurance company to use their dollars, I wanted to understand more before proceeding. While most comments - in this thread as well as throught the site - seemed supportive of the person asking the question, Slinky's comments were not

Re: Newbie waiting for Rx for my equipment
James,
The comparison is misleading regarding the use of software on the Escape. If the software were used (if it could be) the only data available from the Escape II would be compliance data. Hours of therapy use. That is it. The software would only show that data and nothing else. The machine does not store anything else.
To have any data above compliance, then you need the Elite II. The Elite will also allow you to see data on the LCD screen. AHI, AI, Hypopneas, leak, etc.
Other than the difference in data there is no other significant difference between the 2 models. The Escape can and does deliver excellent therapy, you just have no way to trouble shoot things if therapy doesn't go smoothly.
So just because the machine (Escape) can be used with the software doesn't mean you get full data. The data would be hours of use only... Does this clear things up a bit?

Thank you very much . That does clarify and gives me some ideas about how to search for additional information. I really appreciate the help,

James, I didn't mean to sound condescending or rude. Maybe it came across that way 'cause I'm not feeling my best right now. Nothing serious but running a low grade fever and just feeling yech. My apologies for offending you. There is NO SUCH THING as a dumb or stupid question and I would hate to think that I caused you to be hesitant to ask any further questions.
