Hotel smell

Post by Guest » Sat Sep 26, 2009 10:04 am

I used my cpap machine in a hotel for a few nights and now that I'm home, I can still smell the hotel smell in my machine after a weeks use. I changed the filter and cleaned the hose and still have a slight smell. Any ideas on to get rid of the smell?

"Hotel smell?" Is that like "new-car smell?"

Try running the machine for a few hours outdoors, with a good supply of fresh air at the intake.
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.

I have cleaned the hose and reservoir again. Hopefully in a few days the smell will be gone completely gone. If not I will talk to the DEM for thier suggestions. I never stay in a smokers room, this hotel is smoke free.

Just curious, what is a "hotel smell"? Is it a musty smell, or is it the smell of cleaning products? I have smelled both smells (and cigarette smoke) in hotels, but I haven't associated any particular smell with hotel rooms. I have been in hotels that reeked of the fabric softener that they used on the sheets and towels; and in another hotel, the room smelled of an air freshener that the maid sprayed in the room twice a day. After a couple of days, I got the maid to stop spraying the air freshener, and I didn't notice that there was any odor that she was trying to cover up.

This hotel room smelled like a musty/cigarette smell. You really noticed it in your clothes if you use the hotel closet. Sometimes you may notice it when you first walk into the room. Unfortunately the smell is in my cpap now. I spent three nights there.

The musty smell should clear out of your machine pretty well if you run the machine outdoors for a few hours, but cigarette smell is a problem. Other than washing, the only thing that is effective against cigarette smell is ozone, and the concentration that is needed to remove cigarette smell could damage the machine and mask. If your mask and hose still smell, soaking them in a baking soda solution should help.

In the past, people have reported that the PurSleep product works well on the road. I would be happy for more feedback about this application and would be happy to send anybody some samples in exchange for your agreement to provide feedback.

Just send me an email with a mailing address: bret@pursleep.com
