Pur-Sleep Regenesis Pillow - A Review

Post by goose » Tue Sep 22, 2009 7:29 pm

I just received one of the Pur-Sleep Regenesis pillows. Wow!! What a difference!!!!

I've actually known about the Chinese connection for many years and never really gave it much thought, but this pillow has been a revelation!!!!

Pur-Sleep, has again, come up with a product that makes sleep, for those of us with OSA, much more comfortable!!!! It would also be fantastic for anyone without OSA!!!!

It's heavy. It ain't movin' around when I toss and turn, which has been a problem I've had with "regular" pillows for many years!!

It's "solid". When you put your head down and get the pillow molded to fit, it stays that way. The shape/thickness allows my head to be on the pillow and my shoulder to be on the bed without bending or straining my neck -- Nice!!!!!

I'm a restless side sleeper and I've experienced less leak problems with my Activa mask since I've been using the Regenesis pillow!!! My old style pillow seemed to "scrape" the mask a bit when I moved and even with the "active cell technology" on the Activa, it would leak. I was constantly waking up to adjust the mask. Not a problem with the new pillow.

I'm using the pillow full - I didn't have to take out any of the Buckwheat hulls for sizing.
Ever the tweaker that can't leave anything alone, I'm considering acquiring a few more hulls to see if making the pillow a bit larger will improve my experience.

The construction with the quilted fabric is very robust and excellent quality. I don't expect to have any problems with the pillow at all -- very high quality construction.

The pillow case is also high quality. It's made from an unbleached natural fabric -- Being into tie dye, it adds a different "color" to the dye process. I may get a couple extra, dye them up and see what they look like.

All in all -- I am extremely pleased with my Regenesis Pillow and look forward to many comfortable nights of good sleep in the future!!!!

Cheers

Second everything you wrote.

There have been other threads on this pillow and a search may be worthwhile. To reiterate a few things:

- I would like to see a larger Regenesis pillow. The current one is too small.
- definitely needs more hulls, and greater "loft". I'm searching for a local supplier of hulls
- pillow cases with a higher thread count would be appreciated, and should be offered as a separate cost item.
- Separate fitted pillow cases also will allow us to have a clean pillow case on hand when changing the sheets.
I'm workin' on it.

I would agree with the positive reviews here, and would repeat the request for the pillow to be supplied with about a gallon more hulls. I love the pillow, but had a stiff neck after using the pillow for about a week or two, and it was resolved by the addition of hulls. These hulls, BTW are pretty darned expensive to purchase on your own.

I am "this close" to buying one. Then I had a revelation in the middle of the night last night. I sleep with my arm under my pillow and my head. The talk about this pillow being so heavy leads me to think that wouldn't work with this pillow. I'm a big-time sidesleeper, but don't know what I would do with my arm?

I just got my Regenesis today so I haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but I had heard about how heavy it was too, and I don't find it heavy at all. If you think about it, it only contains 5 lbs. of buckwheat and 5 lbs. isn't really heavy at all. Granted I haven't slept with it yet, but my husband has a really nice memory foam pillow and that thing is a little heavier than my Regenesis.

I have a *lot* of hulls and I'm willing to ship to anyone who needs them for the cost of postage. Hit me up!

When I sleep on my stomach, I put an arm under my pillow. I use the Regenesis and don't have any problem sleeping with an arm under the pillow. I think when people talk about this pillow being heavy, they mean in comparison to a regular foam or stuffed pillow. Still, as others have said, five pounds isn't all that much, and all those five pounds aren't on your arm.

The more I use the Regenesis, the more I like it. I'm usually a side sleeper, but I used to sleep on my stomach, which I haven't been able to do for a long, long time. I can with the Regenesis!!

I started using one about 2 weeks ago. I had been looking for the `Perfect Pillow' before I was diagnosed with OSA. I have problems with my neck the are aggravated by head/neck position. I never thought I would spend this much money on a pillow.

So far it is working pretty good I need to adjust the amount of hulls again, I'm doing it in small amounts. To be honest when I received it and opened the box I thought, I spent how much for a sack of seed hulls and a case!

I had been using a contour foam pillow that I had modified (took a knife to it) to work better side sleeping with a mask, it worked but not great, the Regenesis Pillow works a lot better. The weight has not been an issue, I also sleep with my arm under the pillow.

I'm sure as I use it more and adjust the hulls it will definitely be a keeper.

I've been using mine for about 8 weeks. I started with it full of hulls and then removed a small amount each night until I found the sweet spot. I think I have removed about a half gallon size bag of hulls. I had a stiff neck for about a week but now I am very happy with it. It forms to your head whether you sleep on your back or side. With regular pillows every time I shifted positions I covered the exhaust port and I got strange noises.

Can you wash this pillow???

I mean even a feather pillow can be washed and I do so every 3 months.

How do you clean this pillow? I mean we sweat sometimes at night and you need to get that out every so often ,,, at least I think you do...

I've been very close to buying one of these several times now, but I'm still a little leery. Especially with people saying they run on the small side. I'm concerned about getting enough loft. I'm a big guy (meaning shoulder width) and I sleep on my sides. I currently have a memory foam pillow and a regular synthetic down pillow on top of that to get the height I need, otherwise my head feels like it's hanging off my neck.

Should I be concerned about the height of this pillow, or would this be something I could put on top of my existing memory foam to get the right height?

I'm thinking it would be over-kill to put this pillow on top of a memory foam pillow. Maybe you need to write to Bret directly to discuss his decision about the lesser amount of hulls packed into the pillow. Everyone is different, but I and others have needed more than the amount of hulls included.

I think the paperwork that comes with the pillow instructs to empty the hulls from the bag and machine wash. After it's dry, re-fill and enjoy......Someone will have to confirm that as I can't find the paperwork......

If the paperwork doesn't say that, I just made it up and it sounds like a plan to me!!!

Oh....and my original comments about the pillow being heavy is in relationship to a normal pillow.....To be honest, I prefer the weight as it doesn't move around when I do.....

cheers
