nasal pillows with a remstar auto cflex ; anybody use this

Post by ronnielewis » Sat Jan 08, 2005 7:57 pm

I am accustomed to using a nasal pillow with my old machine. I am thinking of getting a remstar auto since it just seems to make sense; my vendor says people don't use the cflex and turn it off; and the auto is not needed either. Auto just makes sense and I see a lot of people have success with it. Will a nasal pillow working instead of a mask? Any thoughts out there.

Hi Ron,

Did the vendor tell you that "people" (like many of us on the forum) don't use vendors like them so you shouldn't either. Seems like they were quick to tell you what you didn't need. I think what they were actually telling you is that you didn't need is them.

Another forum member, rested gal, uses the breeze with her remstar auto without problems (it's not the c-flex model though). She will be able to fill you in on any particulars.

Stick with your perceptions of what makes sense (an auto-pap) and what doesn't (your vendor). You are right on the mark.
Sincerely,

Listen to wader and Rested Gal. They neveer lie unlike many DMEs who suffer from DC lip syndrome. How do you tell when they are lieing? Easy. Their Lips Move. ....LOL.....We aren't fighting a war in Iraq either its a contingency operation. I say if they are shooting real bullets and people are dieing it a war. Only in Washington

I'm using the Breeze nasal pillow system on some nights (other nights I'm using the Activa mask), and have the REMstar Auto CFlex. So far, I haven't noticed any problems.

The official word from Respironics though is that the REMstar Auto won't work properly with nasal pillows. The email response I got from them indicates that they've tested it with their the Comfort Lite mask (which they consider similar to nasal pillows) and it was not effective. So, I guess you could say that using it with the nasal pillows would be an "off label" use.

I can tell you that according to the data from my use, my AHI is showing as a little higher when I use the pillows as compared to the Activa mask (using the pillows I tend to be around 5 or 6... using the Activa I'm around 3). However, I've only had all of this particular equipment for a short time, so I don't have enough data to say it's definitely a trend.

Thanks or the responses. I will have to go back to my doctor to get a new prescription to show a range per my vendor which I will do to get the auto remstar. Next question is can i get the sotware via the prescription. I am going to try.

Thanks again.
