What type of pillow do you use?
I'm a forum newbie and a CPAP newbie. I'm trying to troubleshoot my way through my current barriers to compliance, and one of the things I wonder about is my pillow. It's very squishy and worked great when I could sleep on my side. With the mask, though, if I try to sleep on my side I have leaks right away. I'm not discounting the possibility that I need a new mask - I don't recall having any leaks during my split sleep study and I know that the mask I have now isn't the kind I wore then - but I would like to try to make this one work before I ask for a different one.
So, what kind of pillow do you have? Fluffy? Flat? Hard? Soft? Somewhere in between? Special shapes? No pillow at all?
Thanks,
Hazel

There are lots of options when it comes to bed pillows. Personally, I use a TempurPedic, and it works fine for me for either back- or side-sleeping. Some here swear by a buckwheat hull pillow. Others use a water-filled one. I'm sure many use a regular pillow and have success with it.
There are several pillows on the market which are made specifically for CPAP use. Some of them have cut-outs on the sides to accommodate the mask. Check our host site, https://www.cpap.com, for the bed pillows they carry here: https://www.cpap.com/simple-find-cpap-p ... llows.html
Hope that helps.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
Hi Hazel
I use two hard pillows but they do not seem to feel hard to me anymore..
I sleep on my right side, but I use a Swift LT for her and I do not seem to get any leaks unless I spend the night playing with it
Hope you will enjoy your time here on the forum

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
Let me suggest the Regenesis Pillow from Pur-sleep designed by a CPARer and forum member.

>>>THIS IS A PLUG!!!<<<
Used in Asia for thousands of years, buckwheat hulls make ideal pillow stuffing material. They're light and bulky, absorb body moisture, and stay cool in the summer and warm in the winter. When used in a semi-rigid, pre-quilted natural cotton shell, buckwheat hulls readily conform to the space between the body and the sleeping surface and once in place, do not shift even during active sleep, providing robust support right where you want it! The pillow is easily adjusted to suit any sleeping position:
* Side sleepers usually prefer a more full pillow. The four inch vertical side panel easily fills the space between the neck and shoulder.
* Back sleepers typically remove about one third to one half of the hulls. In this configuration, the side panel can be used as a therapeutic cervical pillow: Simply create a nest for the back of the head and the hulls in the cervical area will stay in place even during active sleep.
* Stomach can easily create an ideal, low-profile, cuddly pillow to suit their personal preferences.

This one. (as far as I know, it's the same pillow......just marketed under two names)
If you Google both names, you'll find sources to purchase. The Chiroflow pillow is supposedly marketed through chiropractors. The Mediflow website lists retail outlets.

Memory foam contour pillow under head. With chronic allergies-sinus issues, I must sleep propped up on several regular pillows under the contour pillow. My mask hose-connector is directed down and the hose from the CPAP is covered with fleece; I have no hose issues with this arrangement but I seldom move around when asleep.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
I've been using the Papillow for a few years now and love it. I tried the Regenesis pillow but found the Papillow to be more to my liking. It allows the mask to sort of hang over the edge of the pillow avoiding leaks. I like this pillow so much, I even take with me when traveling.

I use the BreathEasy pillow.http://www.amerimark.com/cgi-bin/amerim ... rtbyprice= It did take me a few nights to get use to because it is a little more firm than my regular pillow. I am a stomach sleeper and so far it is working for me.

I too use the Renesis pillow and love it. I also have a Chiroflow, but I'm about to take that off my bed and replace it with a second Regenesis.Bert_Mathews wrote:Let me suggest the Regenesis Pillow from Pur-sleep designed by a CPARer and forum member.

Re: What type of pillow do you use?
I use a polyester filled pillow that is fairly firm. When using the full face mask, I usually sleep more on the side of the pillow so the mask is hanging off the edge a bit. I also use another pillow (actually a stuffed animal) under my chin for more support. This seems to be the most comfortable and least prone to leaks. When using the simplicity mask I can sleep right in the middle of the pillow on my side with no problem. It's not nearly as bulky as other masks.

Regular old down pillows that I can mold into any shape I wish. I've tried pap pillows, memory foam , on and on, but always go back to my old stand by.

Me too. One is slightly more dense and the other is more down, I think. I scrunch up the down pillow into the shape I want and the other one is the "base."

Thanks for sharing these different types of pillow. Finally I have an idea as to what to suggest my friend to use.
