Hybrid flapper valve question
Hybrid flapper valve question
Hi,
I'm not too familiar with mask part names, but on the elbow there is a hole with a plastic slot in the middle, and just below that there is like a paper plastic flap.
Although my leak rates are low to none, lots of air escapes out of the vent, a continous pressure, regardless of inhale/exhale, etc....
Is this flap suppose to flip up and cover the vent hole ??
Thanks for help.

Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
yes... and it's supposed to flop down when the power goes off.
Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
I think you're talking about the anti-asphyixiation feature...right? When I have the xPAP on and hookup the hose, the flap flips up preventing the air from escaping; if I disconnect the hose, the flap flips down allowing me to breathe outside air.

There is a row of vent holes above the elbow that intentionally vents your exhaled breath outside the mask so you do not re-breathe your exhaled air -- mine do not make noise but if that vented air hits my arm or pillow there is a little noise.

REALLY? I've just gotten a Hybrid and it seems so much noisier to me than the Swift LT. Do you not hear alot of air noise with it? Hmmm... Back to the drawing board....Muse-Inc wrote:mine do not make noise but if that vented air hits my arm or pillow there is a little noise.

Maybe it's the pressure? Mine is 9.millich wrote:...Hybrid and it seems so much noisier to me than the Swift LT. Do you not hear alot of air noise with it? Hmmm... Back to the drawing board....

I don't get a lot of noise from mine either... I'm currently running with 12 EPAP and 24 IPAP
Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
Yes, lots of noise when you have the hose go up and over your head, the tiny vent holes vent out directly onto the elbow in this case. If i have the hose go down on my covers the elbow swivels downwards an the noise decreases.millich wrote:REALLY? I've just gotten a Hybrid and it seems so much noisier to me than the Swift LT. Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
I love this mask (but its the first one I've had!) and NO, I don't find it noisy at all UNLESS, as a reader below said-if the hose is way above my head. It opens and closes.

Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
Wow. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the Hybrid I just received.

Call and talk to RespCare (mfg); they're nice. Technical Support: Clinical and Technical Support: 800-200-9842. Or, talk to whoever you ordered the mask from.millich wrote:Wow. I'm starting to think there is something wrong with the Hybrid I just received.

Yup ! That's it, the flapper valve, Lol !!!! It works, it's quiet. Just alot of pressure, to occupy my mind, before falling asleep, Lol !!!! I normally zonk out quick, but stayed up till full pressure and it works.Muse-Inc wrote: I think you're talking about the anti-asphyixiation feature...right?
Thanks

Nothing wrong with mask, they are amazing !! Love my hybrid !! Just pressure, occupied my bordom prior to sleep, Lol !!!! Mask is super comfortable & leak min to no leaks, for few weeks. Once you adjust to the mask, you will enjoy using it.
Good luck ! Sleep well !
Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
The flap should close whenever there is at least 3 cmH2O of pressure. Is your pressure set to begin at 4?Spirit wrote:...lots of air escapes out of the vent, a continous pressure...

Re: Hybrid flapper valve question
I can get the flapper valve on my hybrid to open and close if I cover its vent. It is supposed to work this way. Under normal use, that valve should always be closed. If you want to check for leaks from the flapper valve, hold your finger just above it. It normally does not perceptibaly leak, but actually leaks just a little bit all the time. If you get your finger too close, it will start to leak, because the slight leak will equalize the air pressure in that small space, and the flapper will flap open.050681354 wrote:I love this mask (but its the first one I've had!) and NO, I don't find it noisy at all UNLESS, as a reader below said-if the hose is way above my head. If your flapper valve is opening and closing, you need to investigate why. Too low an air pressure will do it as has been mentioned. Everyone is different, but I wouldn't use a pressure less than 7 with any mask. Obstructions close to the flapper valve vent, as described above will do it.
I have medium to medium-high pressure, and the noise from the mask vents is slight. It is low enough to hear much of the traffic on the freeway 500 feet behind my house, and the lions roaring next door. Only time I notice anything is if the venting air strikes another object. I use a very long hose, and route it down and away to keep it away from the air vents.
