Help with Rescan 3.7 Software and ResMed Reader (Resolved)

Post by dlp1195 » Tue Sep 08, 2009 2:51 pm

I am trying to download my data and can not get the software to work. When I click download it comes up and says "No Device avaliable to download".
I have installed all the software (3.7) and drivers and the readers green light is blinking and when I plug it in a little box comes up in the right hand corner of the screen and says new device plugged in and ready to go. I have the data card with the gold contacts facing up so any help getting me going would be appreciated.

I really know nothing about this kind of thing, but could the software be bad? Do you have access to another computer to see if you are able to down load it on another computer. Where did you get the software?

I find with mine (since the reader is not the right one for the card) I often have to re-adjust the card many many times until the contacts line up just right. Sometimes it takes me 15 or 20 attempts to insert the card correctly before it reads it, sometimes I hit it right on the first try.

Sounds like your reader is being recognized by the computer ok, it's just not reading the card. Maybe try jiggling it around a little in the reader if there's any play and see if you can get it to line up right.

try a diiferent comm port. Sometimes you also have to take the data card out of the reader and reinsert,

Thanks for the info, I have tried all the above and no luck. I ordered the reader from cpap.com hoping I would not have any trouble but the way my luck has been going with this cpap stuff I should have known I would have trouble. If I had a clear head and energy it might make it less frustrating but I am sure most everyone here has experienced the fog and fatigue. I'll keep trying.........

The card goes in the machine with the logo and arrow facing up, the gold contacts facing down.

The card goes in the reader with logo and arrow facing down, the gold contacts facing up. (but it should go in in the same direction as it does in the machine. That is, the end with the contacts nearest it goes in the machine or reader first)

This frustrated me until I realized the card went into the reader upside down.

That is the way I put it in the reader. Gold contacts up which is opposite of the way it goes in the machine.

are you on a laptop or desktop computer?

Did you try the already posted tips about temporarily disabling certain devices to avoid resource conflict?

I know I posted earlier on the subject in the last year.....or less

Some members (including myself) have found that their wireless card somehow conflicts with the ResMed software or the card reader. Temporarily disabling the wireless card allows ResScan to function.

To disable your wireless card (in XP): Click Start, right-click My Computer, click Properties. Click the Hardware tab, then the Device Manager button Expand Network Adapters, then right-click on your wireless card. Click disable.

Then try ResScan. You may have to close and open it.

Don't forget to re-enable your wireless card when you are done.

Post 1 of 2 for complete instructions:

Mine works the same as yours initially, but I will show you the steps I take to get it to work correctly (on Vista).

Launch ResScan Software on computer.
Click on Open Patient (or New patient, if first time to set up).
Click on to Highlight your name in patient list, then click open.
In a few seconds the screen will split into sections with your data dates on left.
Click on Download Data - a box will open saying there are no devices available for downloading data, connect a flow generator or data card and try again.
THEN connect the Resmed ResScan device to a USB port ( I use a USB extension cable so I do not have to drag out the computer every time to reach the port, a laptop would be easier)
THEN plug in the ResScan data card into the device, gold contacts face up.
Click OK on the previous box that came up with the error before, and a new box will appear with all your data ready to download

Post 2 of 2 for complete instructions

Click the Select button (inside this box, on the right side) and when a smaller box opens, highlight the bullet from selected data to All Available Data (this gives detailed results for the last 3 days also), then click the OK box
Click on the Start Download button
The download will begin, and if you get the message pop up that Duplicates are found, just click the Overwrite button, it will be already highlighted.
When it is finished, the Close button will become available on the open box, click Close.
Now, go up to box 3 on the screen marked Review Data, click on that box.
Very Important, click on the Save button on top before closing the program to save the detailed info.

There are tabs for summary graphs, and detailed graphs.

These steps are easy after doing it only once!

Have fun reviewing your progress! If you have any other questions please post them and I will try to help

Glad I could help.

ResScan 3.7 is not a terribly well-designed piece of software, both in terms of its interface and technical design. It gets the job done, however, and is the only kid on the block.

Now get on with the hard work -- understanding the data.

You can post your graphs in a new thread if you want some help with interpreting it. Ask if you need posting instructions. Or search the forum on "photobucket" and you should find them.
