I keep reading about people concerned with machine noise. As you can see below, I have a respironics M-series bilevel bipap auto, and don't hear any sound! Yes, there is the sound of the air and my breathing, but the machine itself is very quiet. However, others have said they do not have the same experience with this machine.... HTH

If you check the chart in this link you will find the sound level of each machine;

and for autos;

Masks depend on the user. I have found some masks to be very quiet unless I am breathing very deeply, then the noise level increases. The soyala mask is totally silent, but not everyone gets it to work for them.

Are you aware that there is a factor in purchasing a machine that is much more important than the noise level? You need a machine that is "fully data capable" and has optional software that will monitor apneas, hypopneas, snores, mask leak and pressure. Without data capability you don't know whether the therapy is effective.

I have a Respironics M series and was bothered for a long time because it seemed loud. Then I used the software to monitor and tweak my therapy. When I got the therapy right, I started sleeping and breathing better and now I don't hear the soft fan noise of the machine.

Will some of you in Canada recommend machines/software/suppliers for Canada for firyspell?

I use the S8 Elite and at night, I turn the machine on and then put a program on my iPhone called "Sleepmaker" that plays thunderstorms. You can get clock radios that will do the same thing. It's "white noise" but it's very comforting and it's louder than the machine (but not loud enough to keep me awake).

I think any of the top-brand machines are going to be quiet enough that you either won't hear them, or they'll be so soft as to not bother you.

Rooster is right, choose a machine that has the therapy features you want or need. Oh, and if you plan on using this forum often as a resource, you might want to get a machine that a lot of other people have...which would be the ResMed or the Respironics machines. You'll have more resources for help with software, accessories, and tips.

Me too. All I hear is air escaping from the mask, the machine is essentially silent from my sleeping position.

That's not a sleeping postion!

I also have the IntelliPAP, and the mask vents make more noise than the machine. Both are quiet enough that I can hear vehicles on the highway 500 feet behind my house, and animal at the zoo next door.

If you put any machine below the level of your bed (which you are supposed to, anyway if you have a humidifier), it will reduce the noise even more. Some machines have a cover available which renders them essentially silent.

Do follow Rooster's advice concerning a data-capable machine. Noise is easy to deal with. A lack of efficacy data isn't.
