Bob,

I haven't had time to read all of the posts in depth (I skimmed most of them yesterday), but have you tried a full face mask like the Ultra Mirage? (as opposed to a direct nasal interface)

Also, do you have high blood pressure?

DON'T LET IT GO TO LONG. Really!

Do you have an ENT appointment next week already? That doesn't sound so far away. I don't know how long it takes there but it takes over 6 months to get into one here. You can't wait that long. We are not doctors here and what is going on for you is not necessarily the same as anyone else. Besides how much blood are you losing? A nosebleed that is quickly controlled is different that one that lasts a long time.

The ER doctors froze my nose with a concoction of cocaine (not kidding--their words) for freezing and adrenailine, which reduced the inflamation and bleeding so they could see what was going on. They considered the fact that I used cpap and the nose bleeds might interfere quite serious.

It is interferring with your ability to breathe at night, and has gone beyond annoying. See a medical professional

Oh boy am I still bleeding I was able to get back on my APAP last night for 8 hours. I had the humidifier set to #3 and a room humidifier running full blast, i got woken at 4am with some rainout. I managed to get an AI of 0.2 and AHI of 2.7 with zero leak

I checked my insurance and found a ENT doctors office at my local hospital, less than a mile from my house. I called and explained my situation and i have an appointment with the physicians assistant at 1.30pm today I'm hoping whatever they do stops the bleeding and is not painful enough to stop me sleeping with APAP tonight.

I used to have severe nose bleeds frequently until I was in preparation for open heart surgery at Cleveland Clinic. They required a nasal passage examination and discovered a staff infection. They gave me some antibiotic medication gel (don't have that specific information available, sorry, but check with your doctor) that was placed into the nasal cavity with a Q-tip. Two treatments cured the infection and I haven't had a nosebleed since (9 months). Hope that helps!

I'm not sure what is in Bandaid first aid treatment or 'Lip treatment therapy' (I can't think of the manufacturers name) BUT...I get sores on the inside of my nose due to the dry air (I use the humidifier on low or my face sweats) & the pressure of the
CPAP into ones nostrils. I put a small amount on my clean pinky finger & rub it gently inside my nose (both sides sore or not) in the day (check nose fairly often it can look like snot hanging out) & also @ night. The wax in the lip therapy helps it stick. When the sore heals the surprise bleeding stops. Perhaps a local health food store would have a lip balm that doesn't contain petrolium. Or use the creme Bandaid first aid cream & add a dollup of bees wax. It usually clears ,in 1 to 2 days. Hope this helps you as much as it does me.

The medical assistant at the ENT doctors has inspected and cauterized both nostrils as much as they could in one visit. I may have to go back in 2 weeks if bleeding still occurs for repeat treatment. My nose is very painful I'm not sure how sleep is going to go tonight

if i were you, i'd try using a different mask--not nasal pillows. either a full face or nose mask. --that's not going to help you tonight but you might think about it. Glad they were able to get you fixed up. hopefully it doesn't give you any more problems.

Thanks for the update, Bob. Sorry it's so painful. I do hope you don't have to go back. Did they suggest anything to ease the pain in your nostrils?

I have given up pillows for the time being, too. Even with sinus issues, I do much better with a nasal mask, which doesn't have such a deleterious effect on my nostrils.

I've been trying to work with the Quattro and both Hybrid style masks. I blame myself for turning my humidifier off a few weeks back
For pain they recommend Neosporin on the end of my nose, it does not seem to help much. I have a much better and more traditional pain relief in mind for tonight

Bob, you did say the "medical assistant" cauterized your nose but I'm sure you meant "Physician's Assistant-PA", right?. I also hope you can get some sleep with a FF tonight if possible. Thinking of you, Dori

Unlce Bob - I hope that this fixes you up! My husband has a problem with 1 nostril and he has to keep it moist all the time. He uses Rhinaris every night. I'm in Canada so don't know if you can get that in the US but is it a moisturizing nasal gel. He does not have sleep apnea but has a weak blood vessel there that has to be kept moist. I can't persuade him to get it cauterized! This nasal gel has worked for 2 years now though. You won't be able to do it until the cauterizing heals I guess but thought I might suggest it to you. Keep that humidifier going with some heat! I agree that you should probably not use nasal pillows for a while anyway.

I agree with your pain "medication" of choice for this evening!! Cheers!

It's good to hear you got it fixed. My nose hurt like *^&%% the first night. The next day I bought some polysporin--antibiotic ointment for the lower parts of inside my nose and it soothed it a lot. You've got a double whammy. I couldn't use the nasal pillows the first night, but after using the ointment, I was surprised to be able to use the mask again with almost no pain.

Dare I ask what your "painkillers" are? Noses are painful from even small things! Good luck sleeping.

Thanks DoriC and Hawthorne for the wishes, I just took a massive 3 hour nap without any CPAP because of the pain

Doric, sorry for the confusion it was a PA that that cauterized my nose.

Actually now the pain has gone at 8.20 pm and I'me ready to watch a movie and see what happens tonight. The PA suggested Neosporin around the edge of my nasal pillows and did OK the use of the Swift LT for tonight.
