ResMed Vpap S

Post by dlp1195 » Fri Aug 28, 2009 2:49 pm

Hi, I am new to all this and trying to learn what is going on. I had my study a 2.5 weeks ago and got a ResMed Vpap S and using a ResMed Quattro mask. I used the machine for 80 hours the first 15 days and took it in for an adjustment on the transition from Inhale to Exhale because it was such a rough transition. Not sure the person doing the adjusting knows much about my machine as it was worse after he got through. The data he pulled said my mask fit was excellent and he said it was the best results he had seen on a full face mask but my AHI was 23 and AI was 12 so he got in contact with doctor and he raised my pressure to 15 and 9 from original setting of 14 and 10. I have used it 2 nights that way and feel as bad as I did before the study. I learned how to pull the data from my machine by looking at other areas of this forum and my numbers the past 2 nights are
1st night ------------ - 2nd night
Leak- .02/s ------------ .04/s
VT -- 460-1080----------- 480-1080
Resp- 8-15 ------------ 9-15
MV -- 5.7-10.8 ---------- 6.1-12.0
AHI - 20.1 ------------ 23.0
AI --- 10.7 ----------- 10.1
Spon T- 100% ------------ 100%
Spon C - 95% ------------- 94%
Time - 7.26 hours---------- 6.36 hours
I don't know how to interpet these numbers but would like any input so when I got back Monday I will be able to know what questions to ask. All I know is something is not right still and from reading posts here there is a lot of people that probably know more than the ones I am dealing with.
The numbers from my sleep study are 185 minutes with sleep of 125.5 minutes
Overall AhI 36.8 hour REM AHI of 84.4 hour and a NREM AhI of 31.1 9 Central duration of 16.2 Obstructive Hypopneas with average of 22.1 baseline SaO2 awake was 95% with desaturations to a nadir of 84% 2.8 minutes with O2 saturations less than 90%.
I am sorry this is so long but I would apprecitate any help I can get.

The amount of air, in milliliters, in a single inhale/exhale cycle. 500 ml is said to be normal.
Resp- 8-15 ------------ 9-15
Resp, or RR, is breaths per minute. Several norms are used: 12-20, 10-16, 14-16.
MV -- 5.7-10.8 ---------- 6.1-12.0
MV is minute volume. The amount of air you inhale/exhale in one minute. MV = RR x VT
AHI - 20.1 ------------ 23.0
AI --- 10.7 ----------- 10.1
Spon T- 100% ------------ 100%
Spon C - 95% ------------- 94%
Spon T = % of inhalations spontaneously triggered
Spon C = % of exhalations spontaneously cycled

What did your sleep study say about Central Apneas?

I have now had an initial sleep study and three titration studies (the last one with my sleep doc at the controls). I use a ResMed VPAPIII ST and I have had several or more days with an AHI in tbe 25-35 range where the AI is 3 or less. And then I have a few days of AHI of 20-30 with AI of 10-25. I am now awaiting the results of the last one. I have been told that I may never be able to get as low as folks with "normal" sleep apnea. But I am also a candidate for respiratory insufficiency. My RR, VT and MV values are higher than yours.

I suspect you were prescribed a VPAP S (a bi-level) for a specific reason. Can you scan your report and post it? There are others here that may have more insight to offer.

Thanks rogelah, I appreciate the info. That sheds a little light on what the numbers mean. I will scan the study tomorrow and post it.
It said I had 9 Central with a duration of 16.2 seconds each.
