why mach doesn't lower press. after reaching press. of 12
why mach doesn't lower press. after reaching press. of 12
First post here. Mach M series Aflex, ultra mirage FF mask, heated humidifer on3, Encore viewer software:
Mach setting 7-12, Aflex 3 Example 1 nite results: Average press 90% @ 12 w/5 events at that level.
Question; Why does mach. not lower the press after reaching max 12? I usually wakeup and have to turn mach off. For the 1 nite AHI 6.0 leak rate 30;equal to mask rate. No large leaks, no non responsive apnea's, number of apnea's varying during the nite. Usual length of run 6hrs.
Should I raise the max to 13. Sleep study indicated that 9.0 stopped my apnea's, but software indicates some still occurring at 12. Minutes at 12 for this nite 67

Re: why mach doesn't lower press. after reaching press. of 12
This is a problem I had with my M Series Auto CFlex as well. My belief is that in my case, the higher pressure actually causes me to have events. My machine was not able to react in the way that I think was necessary - to back down the pressure until I started breathing again. My sleep study indicated that my AHI went up at pressures above 9. This machine did not appear to take that into account.
My impression is that the issues are better understood now than they were 3 years ago when I got that machine. My new machine (that I got 3 weeks ago) takes the induced apneas into account. Now I do see the pressure drop appropriately and I have lower AHI than I ever did with the M Series Auto. The algorithms used by my new machine work much better for me.

You may also be having snores or flow limitations when the pressure is 12 which stops the machine from lowering the pressure.
Can you post sample data from a night or two? You have to upload your image to a photo sharing site and post the IMG link. Ask if you need detailed instructions.

As mentioned, leaks, snores and the other events will drive an Auto nuts trying to keep up. The combination could be keeping your pressure at the upper limit. If you raise the upper limit, it would probably keep continuing to hit the upper limit due to the increased leaking at higher pressures.
I'd suggest setting it in CPAP mode in a single pressure somewhere between 9 and 12 and see what the reports look like for a few nights. Then, adjust from there.

Please post detailed instructions on upload to photo site and whatever IMK link is.
I have My pictures and Picasa 3 How do you get Encore Viewer to move data? Thanks for the info presented!

I was really hoping to see some Encore graphical data for a typical night or two.

I have the IMG code for the image, but Cpap won't let me submit it.

your account doesn't seem to be registered. Go ahead and register, update your user account profile with your equipment, then see if you can paste the IMG code.dal09 wrote:I have the IMG code for the image, but Cpap won't let me submit it.

Re: why mach doesn't lower press. after reaching press. of 12
One small tidbit..
You said when the pressure wakes you up, you turn the machine off. I think your machine has a ramp button. If you have the ramp set at a comfortable pressure, just hit that button and go back to sleep. The pressure drops to the ramp level and slowly climbs to the therapeutic level, while you go back to sleep. It's better than cycling power.
It's not optimal, but until you figure out the basic problem, it's a way to get by.
