For those still having troubles, consider trying Firefox for your browser if you are not already using FF. If the website doesn't work with Firefox, I don't go there. So much less spyware, malware and other problems.
http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/upgrade.html

I also use McAfee Site Advisor to keep me away from those nasty internet sites. When I do a Google search - the nasty sites don't even show up in the results.

Be sure to choose the FF addons like Adblock Plus and No Script then you won't even see those pop-up ads anymore. There are many other helpful addons to choose from if you have the need. IE Tabs is another if your banking site will only work with Internet Explorer.

Good Luck

Hey Gumby,
Totally agree with FF utilization, but as you point out, there are some idiots out there in web-world that insist on writing sites that only seem to work with some flavor of IE. The IE "emulator" in FF doesn't seem to work properly -- if you select IE6 it's supposed to render pages as though it's IE6 but that doesn't seem to happen - so somewhere the API's aren't "good".
Lately, I've been having issues with .pdf files loading into FF -- they get so far in the download (just over 50%) and then freeze and never finish. Don't know what's up with that (anyone got any ideas???)......if I go to IE7 it downloads immediately (same version of adobe reader in each - already checked).

The process I used with with FF 3.0.13 is above. PIA but it did work.
cheers

I hate to report, but it appears your system has been the problem. I tried every way you suggested for IE7/8 and no joy. I then tried to register under a new name and again it would not allow me in. I tried sending you an email and got back this response

Hi. This is the qmail-send program at smtpauth19.prod.mesa1.secureserver.net.
I'm afraid I wasn't able to deliver your message to the following addresses.
This is a permanent error; I've given up. Sorry it didn't work out.

<cpap @ cpaptalk.com>:
Sorry, I couldn't find any host named ?cpaptalk.com. (#5.1.2

I had given up and then all of a sudden, I was allowed to log in this afternoon. Hopefully you get it fixed for all of us that have been shut out.
Bob

Goose, my version of IE tabs doesn't allow me to select which ver. of IE, I don't think. I am grateful for those who continue to use IE for as long as they do, I feel I will be left alone

Texan, those spaces should (need to) be removed from the cpap emale addy.

We have to remember that computers do just as they are told not as we think or want.

Hey Gumby,
I was speaking of the IE emulator in Firefox....I think the last mode is IE6, so it's a bit outdated, but I haven't checked lately. As an alternative browser I use IE8 and Chrome, so.....Because it's a Microcrap product I try not to use IE any more than I absolutely have to......there are some things that just seem to work better (sites that are written with and for M$ API's....They'll usually work with other browsers.....eventually. It's why the European Union or whatever it's called sued and won against M$ and Windows is now distributed in Europe without a browser allowing the customer to choose one).

Anyway -- it works now.....I'm a happy camper....it was just a hassle to get it there!!!!

cheers

Hi folks,

Well, my sad tale of problems logging in is resolved, more or less. The gentleman (and I use that term specifically because he was very polite and responsive) from cpap.com who is their lead techie (I think), gave me a number of steps to try (over several days) that were all logical but didn't work. Finally he ran out of ideas except to suggest Firefox or Google's Chrome. I decided to try Chrome and it works just fine. I only had the problem on one of my 3 computers and IE8 works fine on the other two.

The only thing I can think of is that something got winged up in one IE8 that is not incredibly rare but that only happened on my one PC. So I made Chrome my default browser on the afflicted PC but still have IE8 for everything else --- works fine!

I'm very unhappy about this. When I use IE8, which is my browser of choice, I log in and am immediately thrown out. When I try posting as a guest, it wants me to type in a confirmation code except that I can't see the picture to see what exactly they want me to type. Right now I've signed into firefox and it works but I don't want to have to use firefox. It's bad enough that my iPod Touch insists that I use Safari in order to use my calendar and contacts. I don't want to use multiple browers. Besides, at work, we have IE8 and our pc's are locked down so we can't install anything else. I sometimes like to check out cpaptalk.com at lunch time.

I don't get the impression with this thread that there's any hope for us IE8 users. Am I reading this wrong?

France

I suspect that one of these days we'll get one of our automatic updates that will fix IE8 but won't tell us what it's fixing. I'd suggest trying IE8 periodically (i.e. after updates) to see if it is fixed. They will eventually get there! I'm using Chrome which is very basic and streamline and use it just for cpaptalk.com.

I have Chrome set as my default browser and then click on the IE8 icon for everything else. No problems, no hassle

I hope you're right, Mindy. Right now I'm upstairs at my laptop using safari, which seems to work too.

I'll keep trying with IE8.

Take care

Hi France,

I've seen this happen a number of times over the years! The problem may or may not be IE8 itself ... it could also be an interface with Windows or almost anything else. I have a Lenovo Thinkpad x61 that I got about 6 months after Vista came out. Everytime I was inputting a cpaptalk message IE crashed. It got really tiresome and I almost gave up on the X61. I'm writing this message now using the same computer. My other Vista computer didn't have the problem.

I had called Lenovo when it happened and they *claimed* that nobody else had reported the problem. About 8 months after I first had the problem, there was a special fix from Lenovo that described my crash problem exactly ... it was an update for the hard drive firmware. Never had the problem again.

The moral of the story: computer problems can have causes unrelated to the software that crashed and eventually someone will figure it out! Patience is required!

Mindy

I just signed up too. I'm so excited to see a challenge for a mask I use every night. I'd love to get picked, but even if I don't, it will be great to hear feedback on the other mask.

I don't know what the webmaster did ... but I really wish that she would un-do it.

I followed all of the instructions given earlier by Carolyn ... but to no avail.

Or am I still the only person that cannot have the "remember" function work when I log on each time?

You're lucky that at least you can log in. I have to use safari, which is dislike, in order to get signed in at all. With IE, whenever I try to log on, it throws me back out. I like IE. I don't want to have to use foxfire (or whatever it's called) or safari or anything else. Besides, when I click on the link in an email telling me that something has been posted on a thread I'm interested in, an IE window opens, not a safari one or anything else.
