Sex with cpap user?

Post by cpap sleep partner » Sat Aug 08, 2009 1:11 am

My husband of 18 years was just fitted with a CPAP mask and machine. I cried because it looks to me like this is the end of our sex life. I know he is very tired but I dread having to sleep next to this robot monster mask every night. Any suggestions about how to keep my marriage while my husband tries to get a decent night's sleep?

Have sex before the machine goes on. (Or wake up, and take the machine off before proceeding.) There is NO REASON you have to give up on a satisfying sex life. The machine is for use when he is asleep, not when he is awake. It *does not* interfere with the things he is doing while he is awake.

Also: if your husband has apnea, once it is treated, you may find (almost certainly WILL find) that his energy and zest for life increases. Which means CPAP will probably enhance your sex life, not diminish it.

Maybe think of it as if it's one of those masks test pilots used in the past - very sexy really, if you think about it, and not monstrous at all, just part of the whole scenario.

Nicely put MoneyGal. You can always think in terms of, "Top Gun" if that is of any help. Seriously, you are in for a positive change.

"I know he is very tired but I dread having to sleep next to this robot monster mask every night."

I have a hard time believing this post is serious. My guess is someone is trying to have fun with this community. "Robot monster mask" - real nice.

You sound a bit selfish to me. What happened to the through thick and thin until death do us part of your marriage vows? This is the thin, but it is also the part that the guy up above uses to judge us when the time comes.

My hubby said this:

"you can't see it when the lights are out. It will come off.... And when you sleep, my dear - so do I!"

Cpap users do it with pressure....

If your relationship is this "shallow", you've got bigger problems than THIS.

If you haven't tried having sex with a CPAP user.......you don't know what you're missing......

I thought about making a mention of what carbonman said, but seeing as I'm still kind of new here, I thought that I'd let one of the seasoned do that

In harmony with the preceding replies, my understanding is that both people are supposed to be awake when that sort of thing happens.

In my opinion, getting good sleep, preventing snoring, and staying alive are all loving things to do, and its all supposed to be about love.

You need to change the image of the mask...exercise your fantasy life about this new addition to your hubby's sleeping, something that will save his life because untreated apnea ends in death...think fighter pilots, astronauts, deep sea divers, Darth Vader (sexiest voice going). This whole xPAP device and mask is a miracle when you think about it, technology used to prevent collapse of the airways and prevent oxygen starvation. Lots of couples cuddle/enjoy sex before maskup, others in the morning. As for tiredness, that'll go away as soon as he starts getting some decent sleep...then I doubt what he puts on his face to sleep will matter 'cause you'll likely be too tired to care if ya get my drift
