Is This the Big One That Blows CPAP off the Planet?

Post by roster » Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:18 pm

I believe this project is a few years old. Does anyone know if it is still active?
The Linguaflex LTR is an implanted device inserted into the tongue by a single needle injection under local anesthesia. The entire procedure takes 2 to 5 minutes and can be performed in a doctor’s office. The device can be easily adjusted or totally removed in 1 minute without the need for anesthesia. Extensive preclinical and initial human studies show efficacy with excellent safety and patient comfort. http://www.linguaflex.com/technology.html

Sorry, Rooster this sounds like the panty hose that never run. It'll never see the market place because then all those wonderful DME people would be out of a job. Or it will be like the dental appliance that only a few, very $ dentists do Or for some reason it won't be allowed to the public for safety reasons But it'll be available in Europe

I don't think so. The brick-and-mortar DMEs claim they make their money off of oxygen and CPAP is a poor profit maker and more of a hindrance.

Thanks for the link explaining the LTR a little more.

The device must be disappointing. It doesn't sound any better than the things my drinking buddies already tried on me on fishing trips.

Ouch!

This has to be some kind of Chinese torcher device ... water-boarding might be more preferable.

All the power to them. People investing money and inventing things is how progress happens. It might not work out but what if it did.

I will be in line years from now be their 1,000,000 patient. After they screw up a couple hundred thousand patients and work all the bugs out.

Looks kinda like the Pillar Procedure, but in the tounge instead of the roof of the mouth - and anchored down. I read that some people have problems with the implants from the Pillar coming out or poking out.

I would hope that this works out.
But, the site to this company looks a little light on the info and does not look totally credible.

Set aside a chunk of time and read the info in the link to the patent, http://www.google.com/patents?id=5YaiAA ... TR&f=false, that Rested Gal posted.

These guys have a tremendous knowledge, have done a lot of good work, and have an excellent vision for a product to make our lives better. It does not guarantee any success for their product, but it is a comforting thought that individuals have the freedom still to do such work.
