Hello
Does anyone on this forum know anything about the VPAP III. I have tried to get info from DME and e-mailed ResMed. So far nothing. It has two cable hook-ups on back. ResMed site has Rescan software checked as though it can be used with this machine. I assume if this is correct then you would hook up VPAP to computer through a cable and get info to software. Is it that easy or am I missing something. I keep waking up in early morning hours and wanted to find out why with info from machine if it is possible with this machine. I need to know just exactly what this machine is capable of. Thanks to anyone who can help me.

You will need a female to female DB9 adapter (one end fastens to the DB9 Male port on the VPAP III). You will also need a DB9 Male to USB null modem cable (i.e. Keyspan USA=19HS) that fastens to the other DB9 Female port on the adapter and the USB on the computer.

Pam,
There's also another alternative which is useful if your machine is in one location and your computer in another.
You can connect a ResLink to the back of your machine. This has a slot for a data card. In the morning you can take the card to your computer and plug it into a card reader and use ResScan. An added benefit is that you can plug in an oximeter to the ResLink and this data will also show up on ResScan.

A base reslink (no SpO2 module) sells for about $US 180-200 from some dealers. The SpO2 module costs the earth (around $US600) & is not all that helpful compared to a sub-$US100 recording SpO2 unit.
The Reslink base unit has a SM (Smart Media) card that collects *a lot more* data than the internal machine memory so is well woth the cost.
To connect a VPAP III to a pc really only needs 1 cable (that is all I use) and that cable needs *femail* db9 connectors at each end.
If anyone has managed to get a USB serial cable with a female DB-9 connector at 1 end (goes into the back of the VPAP III) & a USB at the other end (goes into the PC) then that would be a good alternative, but I haven't as yet seen anyone decribe the best cable nor how to set it up.
Good luck

First and most important, that’s just about the cutest ggson I’ve seen in a long time. My youngest is a gdaughter the same age.
A few comments about your post-
I mentioned the ResLink so people like myself, who have the machine on one floor and their computer on another would see there is an alternative to carrying one to the other. To me it was definitely worth it not to have to carry my machine up and down all the time.
As far as the $600 for the SpO2 module, I realize that many are struggling to pay for their treatment and I am very concerned for them. Others, just spent $600 on a pair of shoes.
I spent the $600 on the SpO2 module because when I print out my detailed graphs, the SpO2 graph is right in the middle below Leak, Minute Ventilation, Respiratory Rate and above Pulse Rate, AHI and Events. Now I can easily see how these things affect my O2 level.
Maybe you can do the same thing with your recording SpO2 unit, I don’t know. I made this decision when I was just starting out and I hadn’t even heard about recording units.
Thanks for all the great information that you have contributed to this forum.

PS By Googling, you can easily find people that can make any kind of cable that you need.

I agree that having that Spo2 data in the readout is well worth the cost if one has the money
Slinky bought one of the ResLink SpO2 units but didn't like it. I bought one too directly from Nonin but tried to do it on the cheap & discovered that whilst I had the right SpO2 it had the wrong plug & I never did get it working (tried to make my own plug). I ended up spending more than the original $600
I now use a CMS-50E finger probe that records a nights data & dumps it via a usb cable.
Cheers
