Glasses

Post by hazelson » Tue Jul 21, 2009 9:59 pm

I like to read before going to sleep - it makes me tired )

The trouble is I can't do that with the mask - anyone have any suggestions for making glasses fit on top of a nasal mask???

I could do it with the the nasal pillows but they didnt work out to well.

I can't even imaqgine what it might look like - but could it be any worse LOL.

A pair of monocles?

I'd suggest contacts, but you don't want to sleep with them.

Hi Jennifer

It may sound simplistic but what I suggest is -

Read before sleeping as you normally do

When tired enough put on your mask

and

Enjoy your sleep

Wow Jeff - thank you - we had a look at the site (wow monacles are expensive!) but it has given Dh an idea - we could just get this one solved tonight. Will keep you posted.

Ja, me too!

I can say that I'm really lucky - when I went
for cataract lenses, the ophthalmologist put
a bifocal lens in one eye. Now it is so easy
to lie in bed and read without glasses!

May I ask - why do you put your mask on so
soon? (You love it so much ? ? ?)
For me, that's the last thing I do
before switching of the light !

Original poster might be different.....for me, I mask up when winding down because I am often more tired then I realize, and will wake up later realizing I have dozed off.....for hours or most of the night..... with the light still on and me not even fully reclining!!

If I am not already masked up and on a long "settling', I may wake up with a too familiar headache telling me I have not gotten enough oxygen.......I don;t care to have anymore of those days!!

Get a cheap pair of metal framed reading glasses, the $10 kind you find on racks in pharmicies, supermarkets, ect.
Cut off the bridge connecting the two lenses.
Attach a rubber band to both nose pads to hold the glasses together.
Wear over your mask, and adjust the rubber band for the best fit.

I have NO IDEA if that would work or not, but it sounds good!

Leave the mask off while you are reading... unless you fear falling asleep with the book-in-hand.

I'm assuming you have the machine on when you have the mask on... the issue I see with that is that events that are scored while you are awake are meaningless and skewer your results.

What about a pair of those glasses the make that are held together by a magnet on the bridge of the nose. maybe they will sperate enough to allow you to be able to read. I am in week two of using the Cpap machine with nasal pillows. I had the full face mask in my sleep study but the reason I tried the nasal pillows is because someone told me about the reading thing.
