My dog ate my mask
My dog ate my mask
So here I am recovering from gallbladder surgery and my doggie is mad that I cant pick him up, so he decided he was going to eat my mask as payback. He bent and cracked the L shaped piece that connects the hose to the nosepiece (its a swift LT) as well as the tip of the small hose. I cant afford a new mask and my insurance wont cover one until the end of August. Does anyone know if they sell seperate replacement parts? Im going to see if I can tape it together but im not sure how well that will work. Anyone have any experiance or tips for tapping back together a doggie eaten mask???
Re: My dog ate my mask
Here is a list of the replacement parts for the swift lt from cpap.com.

It does not look like what you need is on the list.
You might also be able to use duct tape to make it work until August.
Good luck!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but this is the last place i expected to hear that. I wish you luck in finding the parts you need.

My dog has eaten innumerable shoes, boots, books, dvds, cosmetics and chewed up the internet cable at least twice. Luckily I have a loft bed and it never learned how to get up a ladder.

Mine is a fox terrier/schnauzer - my daughter has a Sheppard/husky and it ate the tv remote, kitchen floor tiles and a box of razors amongst other things.

Model airplane glue might work.
To euthanize the dog, of course...
The mask is history.
J/K, I'm sure it can be repaired to a workable state...with a little luck and a lot of determination.

There are some interesting (and toxic) glues on the market these days plus there is always duct tape.Model airplane glue might work.
I would glue and duct tape - make sure you do your gluing outside in the morning and let it gass off during the day. Some wire might also help keep it together.

No not a Lab. Mine is a French Bulldog. He loves anything that is hard plastic. When he was a puppy he ate everything Plastic tv remotes, a car radio face plate even tried to eat a camera. But as he is getting older now he doesnt usually chew that much anymore. I tried taping it back together with some fabric sports tape (it was all I could find right now) it seems to be holding I guess I will have to try it when I take a nap and see how it hold.

Frenchie,
I'd say duct tape is your best bet right now. Is this what you are looking for?
https://www.cpap.com/productSearch.php? ... wift+elbow
All the best on the GB recovery. I had mine out in 2007 when I was 34. It's been a blessing and a curse for me, but most people have no problems at all after recovery and can eat what they want. I'm not one of those, but I do feel better overall. For some strange reason, I have been having pain in that area again, but blood tests and ultrasound came back normal. I suspect Sphincter of Oddi dysfunction in my case; it's not as dirty as it sounds.
If you have ANY gallbladder related questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

Re: My dog ate my mask
I would suggest very narrow strips of tape if you decide to go that route. Gaffer's tape might even be better if you can find/afford it. It comes off more cleanly. I am guessing that you will have to repeat the fix a few times before you get your replacement.
One of our two miniature doxies got my dental appliance a few days ago and mangled it into an unrecognizable piece of acrylic. No one is fessing up. I have to do the drug store solution until I can afford the $500 replacement. Some day they will have me trained.
Good luck!

Re: My dog ate my mask
Thanks I think that is what I need but for the swift LT. So far I am doing ok with the GB recovery - im 34 also. I just had it out last week they did it laperscopiclly I Still get tired pretty quickly if I try to do to much and bending to pick stuff up is no fun since my belly button is still really sore. But I will take that over feeling like someone had kicked me in the ribs. I try to eat low fat for the most part anyway so that hasnt been to bad, but for some reason since the surgery Milk is no longer my friend. Hopefully that will improve as I heal. Thanks for all the help I really appreciate it

Re: My dog ate my mask
I had my gallbladder out about 7 years ago, too. Is that going to be yet another thing that seems to run with SA?
Re: My dog ate my mask
Do you think your dog spent hours planning his goin' get even tactics? Or did he have a need to gnaw on something, your mask was available and he had no idea the value of your mask as oppose to the worn out shoes sitting a gnaw distance away........Sometimes we forget to put our toys away from our chewy friends.... ...check out cpapaution to see if there is a mask option there until you get your replacement in August.......11 days away........good luck!!!!frenchie wrote:my doggie is mad that I cant pick him up, so he decided he was going to eat my mask as payback.
