Continued ResScan Problems - Never Mind!
Continued ResScan Problems - Never Mind!
I have installed ResScan, updated the ACR38 drive and have had to disable my wireless card to get ResScan to work on XP SP3. This worked for about 2 weeks.
Yesterday I allowed Windows Update to install updates on my machine (which included IE 8 if that matters).
Now ResScan will not work even with the wireless card disabled. Every time insert the data card a Visual C++ message box appears stating that DeviceScan2.exe has requested termination in an unusual way. I have manually started DeviceScan2 from a command prompt, but it terminates every time I insert the data card.
I have run the QuickScan program from ACS and it finds the card reader just fine whether the wireless card is enabled or disabled.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Re: Continued ResScan Problems
I'm not sure of the problem, but I know IE8 interfered with my hp printer and QuickBooks 2007. It was necessary to uninstall IE8 and the 2 problems I mentioned were fixed. I have stopped the Windows automatic update because of this and manually select which updates to install. Might be worth a try.

Re: Continued ResScan Problems
I also had problems with Rescan and IE8 which were solved by uninstall of IE8. Then I've upgraded Reader drivers from manufacturer site, Rescan to 3.7 (was 3.6 innitially) and then IE8 and works ok in this combination in XP SP3 and Vista 64

Re: Continued ResScan Problems
Fortunately Tuesday's updates have not caused me any problems on WinXP SP3. I had installed IE8 sometime ago though.... This particular machine has a wired NIC rather than wireless.

Re: Continued ResScan Problems
I'm almost to embarrassed to admit this, but it was late last night so here goes...
I realized this morning that I was inserting the data card into the card reader upside-down (gold contacts down).
So I fired up ResScan, disabled the wireless card, hooked up the card reader, inserted the card properly and it worked fine.
To affirm my diagnosis, I repeated the process with the card upside-down and got the same error message from DeviceScan2 as I did last night.
It's important to note (when helping others) that the error message (Visual C++ Message Box with DeviceScan2.exe requested temination in an unusual way) is the same message as received when the wireless card is enabled.
So in the immortal words of Gilda Radner as Emily Litella, "Never mind!"

No need to be embarrassed, jdm. At first I was inserting the card upside down. Every now and again I find that I still have inserted the card the wrong way. ...And I've got over 20 years under my belt as a computer/network/security professional.... It's amazing what SDB does to our brains, eh? I can't wait till my brain returns to full working order. At least I hope it will return to full working order. I'm approaching fffffffffffffffifty, after all.....

Re: Continued ResScan Problems - Never Mind!
Well, it isn't the best human engineering when one device requires the card to be oriented one way, and the other device the other way. But one was designed by ResMed, and the other by ACS, and at least the reader has the picture of the contacts facing up.
And since I had just run MS update, that was my first suspect.

Gotta love those "Code: PICNIC" errors....just as bad as "Code: PEBKAC".
Re: Continued ResScan Problems - Never Mind!
I searched the ResMed folder looking for some sort of error log file, but found nothing.
