Full Face Mask of Choice
Full Face Mask of Choice
Hello all,
about one week on the CPAP.
I was wondering if the is a Full Face mask of choice. A few weeks ago, when I had my sleep study, I asked for a full face mask because when I tried the CPAP years ago(10 years ago but didn't give it a fair shot), I used the nasal one and had issue due to mouth breathing and didn't realize there was other options.
Due to the mask hurting the bridge of my nose during my sleep study and having one month with which I can switch masks, I decided to try the Liberty Full Face Mask with Nasal Pillows (Hybrid, I believe).
I tend to move as I sleep and sometimes feel I am getting leakage from the nasal pillows. (although last night seemed like a very good nights sleep) I am in the process of switcing my machine from the M-series Plus to the M-Series Pro so that I can Monitor myself. When I switch machines, I was thinking of switching back to the full face mask and was wondering what the most popular Full Face Mask of choice was.
Thanks for any advice

Re: Full Face Mask of Choice
I read your subject and post and I do understand what you are asking.
The problem is that masks are so individual. In full face masks, some like the Ultra Mirage, many here like the Quattro. Then there is the Comfort Gel Full Face mentioned often.
The Hybrid and the Liberty are a bit different as full face masks go. The are a combination of nasal pillows and a mouth cushion. If you are used to nasal pillows, one of these may be better for you. I use nasal pillows and like the Hybrid because it has nasal pillows which I am used to. If you are used to nasal masks, then one of the other popular ones I mentioned might be best for you.
As far as a consensus goes, with masks, that's not likely.

Re: Full Face Mask of Choice
Here's my 2 cents with the understanding that I am still vetting the process. The ComfortGel is a mask that works well BUT has issues with comfort, specifically nose bridge, although these issues can be overcome. The mask being larger also may move if you are a side-sleeper, depending on how far you like to bury your head in the pillow.
The Mirage Quattro was more comfortable right off, however apparently has leakage issues. For me, the leakage issues were the worst kind, imperceptible and thus non-rectifiable. This resulted in me sleeping through the night without noticing any leaks, but suffering the after effects of not receiving beneficial therapy. When I had leaking with the ComfortGel it woke me up, I rectified it, and I was receiving good therapy. I am considering the Ultra-Mirage as my next trial. Again, this has been my experience. The next person will have a different experience.

Oh, ok. Well, there really isn't a concensus, per se, but there are lots of people here with good and bad opinions about many of the masks out there. As far as masks fits go, they are as individual as the person wearing them. There are a sum of people on here that swear by the Quattro or the Ultra Mirage Full Face Mask (or UMFF). There isn't one mask that works for the majority.mcejsul wrote:See subject and body of message, I am seeking a consensu on what peolple feel is the full face mask of choice.
Even the total face mask doesn't work for everyone.

hubby likes the comfortgel by respironics--that's the only thing he's tried and it seems to work good for him. however sometimes he does have leak issues when sleeping on the side, however i've also heard you can get a special pillow (as in bed pillow) for that so you're not knocking it loose from your face--but we haven't tried one yet.

mcejsul,
Talk to your sleep doctor. I did and she made a call to the sleep center and made arrangements (on two different occasions) for me to borrow any number of different full face masks to try. The tecks there helped me try different models and choose the ones that I wanted to take home and try for several nights. When I ordered the one I preferred my DME had me come in to make sure that the mask size was the proper one for me and instruced me on how to put it on properly as well as how to care for it.

Re: Full Face Mask of Choice
One i like that fits my face and closes my mouth when i sleep is the Fisher Paykel Forma mask. I use a large.
It stopped a lot of my leaks.
