Greatful Newbie

Hi!
First let me say thank you. I have been lurking here for a few weeks now and I have learned so much from you guys. I would like to thank each and everyone of you for sharing your knowledge.

The links, all the "tech" talk around sleep apnea. Acronyms. This is all new to me and before reading here I was lost with this OSA thing..
I have found this forum to be a good source of information and most helpful for a newbie.
I will keep on lurking because I still have a lot more to learn.

My visit with the doctor at the sleep clinic was very short and all I remember him telling me was that I have mild sleep apnea more Hyponeas than apneas and many PLMs, Pressure at 7. until I have a better understanding of my sleep studies I just want to concentrate on getting use to sleeping with a mask

I am on a 30 days trial with an: S8 Escape CPAP system with humidifier.and FlexiFit 406 Nasal mask. The end of my trial is July 20 and because of the information on this forum I have visited with the DME and ask for the Elite ll with full data capable machine and software. I also ask to try a different mask.
I was told that yes I can purchase the Elite ll instead of the Escape ll not a problem the DME rep. was very helpful and willing to answer all my questions.
ResScan Smart card Reader and software is on back order but she told me that I would get it for sure.

I'm trying the Swift for her and I like it ,not so much equipment on my face. Although I prefer the Swift over the nasal mask, with the swift I am experiencing a bit of sinus discomfort like drying of the nose, nasal irritation. From what I read here for some of you this happen at first and eventually it goes away I'm hoping that it will like be like that that for me. I'm trying different setting on the humidifier and see if that will help.

I forget who wrote this but I have followed your advice.
I got a copy of my sleep studies, a copy of my Rx, I want to be my own therapist and I am getting educated here!

Again thank you all. Reine

Hi Riene,

Welcome I am pretty new to this stuff too and I see that your DME said that you can get the software and reader for your machine. I will also be getting the Resmed S8 Elite ll. When I asked my DME about the software she said not available for me, only clinicians. I like you want to be able to monitor myself. I am dealing with a DME in St. Catharines Ontario. I see you are in Ontario as well and am wondering what area you are in that you can get the software.

Thanks, Marlene

Welcome Reine!

BTW, I think Carbonman was the one who said that.

Reine,

Make double-dog sure you get a fully data-capable machine so you can buy a card reader and software to monitor your breathing. If you get the wrong one to start with, the insurance company will not pay for another most likely.

You have the attitude to be successful. Now get the right tools.

Welcome,
Rooster

Like rooster said. I'm a noob and have been transcribing data daily off the LCD screen (AHI, leak, 90pc pressure, blower hours) and it's been very helpful already (2 weeks into therapy) but I eagerly await the ordered software so that I can print out the full daily reports (and the summary).

Knowledge is power ... and health.
A heartfelt thanks to all those patient cpaptalk posters willing to share their exerience and knowledge with newbs like me.

Thank you all for the warm welcome.

Hello Windmill, I am from Cambridge but my DME is in Brantford.
When I inquired about the Software and Card Reader, she asked why I wanted that for, and I told her that I had no intention to go to bed with a mask on every night without knowing how I am doing with the therapy.

I promise to use it only to monitor myself and to not change any of the setting.
She told me that she would order it and specify that I would not change the setting.
It is on back order and hopefully I will get it. Sorry for the delay in replying I was aways.
Good luck getting one

I did ask the DME if I could buy the software and she said that I could but that she would have to order it. I am waiting now to see how much my insurance company pays before I order the software and card reader. I ordered an additional mask so will see if they will pay for it too. The DME said that my particular insurance company may....will wait and see, I have sent in the forms. ADP only pays $780 and my total bill was $1925. That was with the extra mask and additional service package etc. I don't know what people do that don't have any insurance, it is so expensive.
