How long will my machine last?

Post by clemsing » Sun Jun 28, 2009 12:43 pm

Hello all,

I have had my machine for almost 2 years, and have used it nightly since day one. (best thing I ever did for myself, btw)
So my question is simple, how long will it last?

The machine is a Respironics REMstar Pro M Series with C-Flex. Total blower hours as of this morning: 4,367.

Thanks,
Clem

Hi Clem.

Nobody really knows that answer. And, if you believe that "Murphy's Laws" ever apply.......

Many of us have backup machines just for that reason. It's like keeping a spare tire in the trunk of your car. You may never need it, but if you have a flat, you would need something to put on the wheel while you're getting your tire repaired.

Probably about an average of 5 years. My dad has been on CPAP for about 15 years and he is on machine number 3. He's a nightly user too and only 1 of those replacements was due to breakdown...and that was his first one at about 5-6 years old.

Oh the stories I could tell about how far machines have come...

I think getting a backup machine is a good idea.

I have been thinking about that for months. Pretty much decided to pickup a Resmed Elite II for the following reasons:

-because I want a backup machine
-because I already have the humidifier and other parts to go with that machine
-because I do better on straight CPAP than on AUTO which my current machine has but I don't use

There are a few on the board who have purchased the Everest 2 as a backup machine. The nice thing about it is that you can get the battery module which covers you in the event of a power outage.

Interesting. In mid August, I'll have 2 yrs on nightly (& naps) CPAP; I'm at 5007 hrs. I must be sleeping a lot more than you . Having always gotteb by on about 6 hrs of sleep, I've learned since being on CPAP that I will wake up naturally at 8 hrs of sleep.

Thanks,
Clem
I'd say, weighing all alternatives, that it will last until it don't work anymore .
Sorry, I just couldn't help it
When I woke up this morning my girlfriend asked me, 'Did you sleep good?' I said 'No, I made a few mistakes.'

If it's like your car, it is done when your last payment is done.

I've seen "new" cars sitting alongside of the highways waiting for tow trucks, too.

My remstar has 15000 hours on it and still runs good. I understand you can get a new one from most insurance companies after 5000 hours.

Thanks, mine has 5015 this morning; will investigate, might cover most of the cost of full data capable machine with EPR.
