ugh. migraines/cpap compliance.

Post by desikitteh » Wed Jun 24, 2009 1:09 pm

when i start to get migraine symptoms i get an odd sort of claustrophobia that makes it utterly impossible to wear my mask. (although oddly wearing a sleep mask over my eyes is fine.) any ideas how i might get around this?

the migrane might be from anxiety

claustrphobia, panic attacks, fear of being smothered are common problems for new users, the best treatment is any valium type med as needed until you get used to using a CPAP

some nasal pillows type masks ase less threatening

read up on panic attacks at google so you know about them, although unpleaasnt, they cant hurt you

1 - not a new user - my sig shows this.
2 - already using a nasal pillow - my sig shows this too.
3 - not a panic attack. i KNOW what a panic attack is.
4 - happens with all migraines. sometimes i know what the trigger is.

I used to get migraines (the kind ya get knockout shots for) until I started taking 400 mgms of magnesium citrate every day -- they disappeared within a wk or so. I don't believe I could have tolerated a mask of any sort on my face as I became exquisitely sensitive to sound, light, smell, touch, and I sure as heck couldn't eat --so all 5 senses were affected. My systolic BP was 225 one time , no wonder I hurt. I'm just glad I found a cure for mine BEFORE I was diagnosed with apnea.

You have my sympathy. Good luck on finding a resolution.

I can totally understand. When I had my mega migraines I couldn't stand my hair near my face - chopped all my waist long hair off one day much to my daughters distress. Couldn't stand to have anyone or anything with in 6 inches of my head. Besides you would have to whip that mask off to puke every 20 minutes. I light a candle to my OB for the hysterectomy that reduced them to minor irritations.

I hate those commercials for migraine Advil - once you start having a migraine your digestion grinds to a halt besides light is only one of the issues. What about sound and smell? They hit like a sledge hammer.

I'm starting to feel like I'm preaching on this subject, so I'll try to stop BUT...you might want to try the Nasal Aire II. Of all the masks I've seen and tried, it touches your face the least. I get great stats with it, too, including consistent 0.0 leak rate.
