I went to the AWAKE meeting tonight, and again, I was the only "patient" who showed up. THere were 13 DMEs and Resmed and Respironics sales reps. The speaker was a pediatric pulmonologist and sleep apnea specialist. I did not learn anything that I did not already know from reading on this forum. But check this out:
Respironics has this cool new mask called Fit Life. It covers the face, but is much smaller than the Total Face mask. I did not try it on because I did not know where it had been

That is one cool looking mask. Doubt if I splurge and buy it -- but would be interested if anyone does try it and reports back on it.

Hi, Bev. I wonder why nobody else shows up to your local meetings? Strange, and it must feel really odd to be the only layperson who attends, especially when so many industry people are there.
But check this out:

When I see masks like this that cover the face, I have to wonder how people deal with the air-blowing-in-the-eyes issue that many complain about with regular nasal or FFMs. I love my Swift LT for lots of reasons, not the least of which is no air blowing in my eyes. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who uses a mask like this (or the Total Face mask).
Veni, vidi, Velcro. I came, I saw, I stuck around.Dx 11/07: AHI 107, central apnea, Cheyne Stokes respiration, moderate-severe O2 desats. (Simple OSA would be too easy.

Wonder if that mask is available from my DME now. It has almost been 6 months, so I'm eligible for a new mask. And, I have been thinking full face, except worried about trying masks that touch my nose. It was a painful process that eventually led me to the ComfortLite II.
Though I've hit a problem....the pillow that I can side sleep on, hurts my neck. The pillow with the neck support...I have mask leak when I side sleep. That as nasal congestion so bad, that it scares me that I'm squeezing the nasal rinse bottle so hard and no water is coming out.
Probably gonna pop into DME on way to doctor, to have them read my card and print my report...and the see doctor about things...and then back to DME for the various things I want/need to get.
The Dreamer.
You may be a dreamer, but I'm The Dreamer, the definite article you might say!

Arizona-Willie posted about his experience with the Total Face mask from Respironics:

Granted, that's a different mask than the one you saw at the meeting, Bev, but what happened to Willie (autopap going to max pressure for most of the night) might be a negative consideration.

That model was supposed to be great for the hockey rink as well:
Hope the new model can hold up to the body checks, flying pucks, and skate blades half as well.

If Jason had apnea I'm sure that's what he would wear.
Plenty of visibility for nocturnal slashing &c.

Kind of reminds me of full face SCBA mask worn in the chemical industry. Much lighter looking though.
I've worn them before. Don't know how comfortable it would be for sleeping....What am I talking about? I think I could sleep with just about anything on my face.
Realized I needed help when I woke up halfway in the wrong lane on the highway and saw oncoming traffic trying to dodge me. Fell asleep again in <2miles.

I should have asked them if I could try it out. It's not like they had any other patients there to spend time with.
BB, I wondered about the air blowing in the eyes, too. Maybe the contours guide the air away from the eyes.
