sores on bridge of nose
Re: sores on bridge of nose
When I first started I developed an ulcer and had to stop CPAP for 7-10 day while it healed. My choice. That may not be an option for you. Once it healed, I started CPAP again and used a small fabric bandage. This had enough cushion to pad my nose but not so much as to allow huge leakage. After a month of bandages I stopped using them (either forgot or was too lazy to put them on). I think your nose toughens up after wearing the mask for awhile. I still get a red mark every morning but it goes away in a few hours. Good luck.

Re: sores on bridge of nose
I use two small pieces of "first aid" type bandage tape to protect the bridge of my nose. A small, maybe 3/8"-1/2" piece as high on the bridge of my nose as I can get it comfortably, and then a 3/4" to 1" piece that overlaps the smaller one halfway. This puts two layers of tape between the mask and my nose. If the top piece is too wide, it get too close to my eyes, and is uncomfortable, so be sure to make it as narrow as possible. Hope this helps. By the way, when I first started CPAP a couple of months ago, I had to place a band aid over the sore that had developed unitl it healed, then went to the tape only. Hope this helps.

This is a very helpful group! Wulfman, I played with the mask a bit last night and brought the bottom of the mask up to just below my bottom lip and adjusted the angle of the forhead support. This brought where the top of the mask sat. Where before, it was sitting right on the spot where the bone meets the cartilage. I have some flannel fabric that I was going to try for an extra cushion as well. It is truly amazing the things we will do to sleep. LOL.

Re: sores on bridge of nose
I've had the comfort nasal gel mask for nearly 6 months. I've had a couple rounds of the sores on my nose bridge. In the past few weeks, I figured out a pattern. I like chocolate, and I like sugar and too much can cause a yeast infection. The nose bridge was a moist area and I broke out in red bumps/rash/blisters across that area of my face. I have rocked back and forth with some extra chocolate here and there and WHAM, it's a trigger. I know it sounds crazy, but I honestly believe that was my problem.
Any one else ever tested this theory or had any similar experience?

Re: sores on bridge of nose
I spoke to my technician recently about that. She said that marks and sores on the bridge of the nose are primarily caused by the mask being too low down on the face. I was doing this and ended up with a mark on my forehead rather than nose. Once she showed me that I have to have the upper straps much higher on my head so that the mask would fit properly - it made uber amounts of difference in the comfort department.
