Yikes. Okay...I'll admit. I smoke. I know it's bad, and I'm working on quitting. That is my next big challeng that I plan on tackling this year. I don't smoke in the house though.
Anyhow. I had to take off on Friday to deal with some business with my rental properties in my hometown. I brought my cpap with me and crashed at my mother in laws house.
She smokes too and smokes inside. I didn't notice it the night I slept there, but I got home Saturday, relaxed etc, went to bed.
HOLY hell....all I could smell was her house!! Blech!!! I stuck my fake candle behind my machine and turned it on to help get rid of it.
I did rinse my hose today, and changed the filter. I hope that took care of it.
If it hasn't...any suggestions? If I wasn't convined to quit before, I have been now!!! puke!!

Oh dear... and just think what your clothes and hair have been smelling like for all this time. Think what your lungs may look like.....
I truly hope you can get the smell out of your machine without problems as now you have even more motive to quit. Wishing you health!

Re: Wow...Smoke smell in Machine
and can you believe that the stuff your machine has sucked in is what you suck into your lungs every time you light up!!!! I'm not preaching at you...I just recently quit myself this past October. I am feeling lots better...it was worth quitting. I used the gum to quit, and I am still chewing 3 - 5 pieces of the gum everyday, but my nurse practitioner told me to use the gum as long as needed, it is way better than all the stuff you take in when you are smoking.
Good luck with your quest to quit...if you need any support...I'm here
P.S. you have beautiful children by the way. I really enjoyed reading your blog. I cannot believe the luck you have when you are trying to go on family trips!!

LOL Pre!! Yeah, our family trips are a treat!! Never a boring moment around here (and thanks re the kids, they are the light of my life!)
Yup...quitting is definately happening soon. I had lung function tests and such done about 2 months ago and full physical. My lungs are actually in really great shape (probably courtesy of the Tuba etc). That said, it's time to quit.
The smell was significantly reduced last night. I'm going to run it outside for a little while today just to get the last of it out. Yeah...quite the eye opener though.

Tried a 5 to 1 wite vinegar to water solution and soak whatever can be soaked for several minutes? Might help remove the scent IF your soakables can handle vinegar.

Re: Wow...Smoke smell in Machine
I spent one night at my mother's house since being on CPAP. She smokes in the house and I never thought about the machine sucking up all that nasty air and running it in my nose. I woke up a three in the morning so congested I had to take a hot shower trying to get my nose unplugged.
FWIW, I used to smoke. Three packs a day for 20 years. Regulars and menthols. I carried two packs with me everywhere I went. The only way to quit smoking is quit sticking them in your mouth and lighting them. I realized seven years before I quit that the only reason I was still smoking was I was afraid to go thru nicotine withdrawals....the ONLY reason. Cold turkey thru the American Lung Assoc. program worked for me.
Good luck

Re: Wow...Smoke smell in Machine
When I quit smoking about 4 years ago I installed a Icon on my computer called quit keeper from quitkeeper.com.(there are others similar just do a seach) It keeps track of years, days. hour, minutes since my last cigarette. Also shows how many cigarettes I have't smoked how much money I've saved, ($15,000 plus) and how many days I've added to my life. Once a smoker always a smoker only difference is the length of time between my last cigarette and your last cigarette. First 4 days are the hardest, might want to stay away from Wife,Family, or people in general.(LOL)Just quit cold turkey and stick to it. Good luck.
Sweet Dreams toYou.
