Respironics Pro noise

Is it me of are these machines noisy. I have the M Series Pro C-Flex CPAP Machine. Any way to quiet them down ? I here my breathing through the machine.

I have one too and I agree it is a bit noisey; however, you get used to it after a while. Some suggestions is to lower the machine below your bed/head so you can't hear it. (Just don't put it directly on the carpet). Turn on a fan, the white noise does a good job drowning it out. I must be deaf. I find my machine very quiet. I tested it by turning off my usual room fan, had family member stick pillows in her nose, let the machine kick in at its usual 10 cm rate (no ramp) and I could barely hear it and had to lean over on top of it to do that. It sits on a small night table about 8 inches or so below my head. I know everyone says the ResMeds are a bit quieter but I personally don't have any issues with the sound of my machine. The fan isn't used to drown out the machine but rather to keep my random post menopausal hot flashes at bay. Everyone has different sensitivities to things though.

I barely hear my machine unless I listen extra hard!

I do hear my breathing while I am falling asleep and say to myself, "Ahhh, I'm breathing so evenly and well! I'm going to have a great night and get such good therapy!" It lulls me to sleep along with my white noise machine.

well thanks folks...guess I need to get use to it..I breathed better with the respironics than the resmeds...might try the noise muffler.

I have nothing to compare it with (one week hoser), but I don't think it's loud. Yes, I hear myself breathing, but that doesn't seem to be a problem. My wife says I now sound like Darth Vader, but she'll take that any day over snoring.

I didn't have a "sounds" problem with my M-Series Auto w/Aflex unit for the first month of usage. Then the sound of my "mask breathing", especially with my head resting solidly on the pillow, was keeping me awake. I added the Whisper Cap but that didn't diminish the "mask breathing" sound. I now have a table fan (set to medium speed) adjacent to my unit and 1 - 3 feet from my head resting position. The fan is very effective in blocking the sounds of my "mask breathing". I plan to get a white noise generator to replace the fan "noise" as the fan is Ok now (summer) but will likely not be what I want to use come winter.

Lots of people like to say the thing is quiet....but I know mine made noise, and it bothered me. And, other than noises from outside or the apartment above me...my bedroom is normally quiet. So any noise from the machine stood out. Especially when I'm trying to fall asleep.

I could tolerate ambulances going by...but the regular rhythmic sounds from above drive me crazy.

I definitely had the sound of being able to hear my breathing...and listening to my breathing makes it hard to calm my breathing down so that I can go to sleep. (especially, if I hold my breath to make the sound stop).

I tried whisper cap and it didn't make a difference. But, switching from the integrated humidifier to the HC150 did make a difference. I say the sharp angles in the Rev 3 water tank act like some kind of sound amplifier which makes other noises louder or something like that. They make a passive sound amplifier for the iPhone that is kind of similar

Now that I don't use CFLEX anymore, I'm not sure if going back to the integrated humidifier be okay.

I had played around with white noise machines....but if I had the machine loud enough to completely mask the sound of the CPAP....it was loud enough to keep me up at night. Though I do now have a fan in the bedroom, but that's to keep my head/face cool with mask on it....because I feeling hot and sweaty makes it hard to keep mask on and sleep.

I complained about that also my first couple months, and I always had to wear earplugs. Now I must be acclimating to EVERYTHING, even the sounds! I don't need earplugs anymore. However, I DID MOVE THE CPAP MACHINE FROM A BEDSIDE TABLE DOWN TO A LOW STOOL. That definitely helped.

I'm wondering, though, is it really noise from the machine . . . or primarily air going through the hose and mask? I'm thinking it may be more of the latter. That may be why when those who listened when someone else was hooked up, and leaned over the machine, said the machine was quiet. (The one wearing the mask was probably hearing the "roar" of loud air moving through the hose and mask). ??

I've used ResMed and Respironics machines and a number of masks, and it seems the masks made the most difference in sounds to me. Last time I got a new mask, the design was somehow different and the vented air seemed more forceful and loud. Took a few days to get used to it. Another time a pressure increase of .5 changed the sound - few more days to get used to it. I sleep on two pillows, the top one just a little lower than the bottom one. I lay the hose across the little "ledge" at the top of the top pillow. One night recently I was aware of the air sounding loud, and reached up to find that sure enough, the hose was near the back of my head instead of over the edge.

I'm wondering if any one who has added a hose cover has noticed any muffling of sound?
