Ganesha -- I am certainly NO kind of authority -- but have you investigated the Pillar procedure as an option also? I sure would like to see someone have success with that, because in THEORY it sounds great. I, too, would like to see a less cumbersome option than the CPAP and mask. I know it has been very effective for many of you -- (I always joke "Don't talk bad about the mask!" to people who love theirs!)
Still - people love their glasses, and I can tell you Lasik is WAY better no matter how much you love your glasses. My nephews had cochlear implants and the deaf community thought that was terrible, but it's WAY better to be able to hear than not hear.......
I know CPAP's have done wonders for many, but I personally want to be careful of shutting down other options that might give us all a better and less cumbersome life. Many of these devices and options get a "not as good" reputation because they haven't tested them to the extent others have been tested.
I hope you find something that works for you -- and I hope you tell us all about it!!
Lisa....
PS. By the way, there is a hilarious song by MC Yogi about Ganesh -- one of my favorites!

I am a simple minded person and often like to think about adding one plus one and seeing what you get. Take this one, psychomamma wrote: .......-- (I always joke "Don't talk bad about the mask!" to people who love theirs!)

- CPAP is a very difficult, cumbersome process that causes lots of side effects, mainly awakenings and other types of insomnia and maybe aerophagia is high on the list. An effective CPAP can be difficult to implement because of leaks, incorrect titration, etc. There is a low compliance rate with CPAP.
Now take this one,
- What do you have besides CPAP that will treat my severe OSA? Dental appliance - very unlikely, expensive, risky (sink costs and then it may not be effective), cumbersome, uncomfortable, jaw problews, teeth shifting, etc. Surgery - expensive, painful, permanent, may not work, may make OSA more servere, etc. So there is really nothing but CPAP.
Now add this one and one together and what do you get? If the patient is determined to live and live healthily, you sometimes get a patient who is an assertive promoter of CPAP. But not because he is unaware of the problems. In fact it is because he is aware of the problems (one) and also knows CPAP is the only hope (plus one). Now he adds the two together and comes to the conclusion that if he doesn't aggresively adopt CPAP and if he doesn't aggresively promote it to his friends, no one will overcome all the problems and achieve a long healthy life.
So you see if someone develops an easy, effective solution, no aggressive promotion and no aggressive determination will be necessary.
We will all go to the beach.

I agree with you, Rooster! I'll meet you at the beach!
I know for sure that if I didn't clearly see the 1 + 1 -- and if all of you didn't reassure me every day that you love your masks and that success is possible -- that I would not still be here, trying. I hope with all my heart that someday I love my mask and can aggressively promote CPAP to all my friends....
I just hope I don't fail to see the miracle cure when it comes because the CPAP is my security blanket - know what I mean? If 1 + 1 becomes 1 - 1, I want to see that clearly, too.
Just wondering, Ganesha, what are you reasons for wanting to quit?

I have had the dental device for the last 18 months. I got it in February of 2008 and then in Sept. of 2008 I had a sleep study done and found I was doing fine. If you got to my other post you will see the results of my sleep study with the dental device. It is one of the best things I did for myself. If you have any questions just ask or e-mail me.
