are they serious?
are they serious?
I need a new prescription to replace a humidifier chamber? They are claiming I need a prescription to get medicare to cover replacing the humidifier chamber. I've had this humidifier for over a year. I just want the chamber replaced because it is broken. I need a prescription for that?

Hi,
You don't indicated which state you live in.
I'm in California ... the governing Medicare document for me on replacement materials is Medicare L171.
The humidifier chamber (for me) is replaceable every six months.
You need to talk to Medicare to confirm your schedule of replaceable materials.
The need for a new prescription doesn't sound right ... but again, talk to Medicare.
Good luck.

It is NOT a Medicare Rule!!!!!!!!!!! I have run into this before. They wanted a new Script for everything. Told me that I had to have a new script every time I got a new mask even though the script I had said it was good for 99 Years. It is generally a DME Company Rule, some feel that they have to do this to cover their corperate A**es. This was the reasion I fired them. Current DME said one script was quite enough and I am still on Medicare.nobody wrote:I need a new prescription to replace a humidifier chamber? Yeah I think it's bull. Maybe if I wanted it within a couple months of getting the humidifier, but it's over a year old. Well anyway the doctor's office sent them a script and I got the new chamber. If it was going to be a big hassle I would have just ordered it from cpap.com.

i think i read some where on the cpap.com website that you don't need a precription for anything but the cpap machince it's self.
Re: are they serious?
The DME tried to tell me I needed an RX for the disposable filters! She finally conceded she was in error and gave me a nice supply of them along with 2 foam ones.
