I'm in NYC and used American Oxygen, which I believe is LI based and in any case certainly serves LI. I liked them. Didn't know half as much as the folks on this board, but they worked with me to get what I specified and their pricing, while marked up over cpap.com's, was not outrageous.

Insurance

Ramblin,

You didn't say if you have insurance or not. If you do, your insurance company will have an approved list of DME's who can get you the equipment in your area.

If you don't have insurance, you will get the equipment much cheaper by buying it online at places like cpap.com, although I really haven't compared prices with other online sites.

Unless you need someone to show you how to put the equipment together or attach your mask to your face, etc., I'm not sure how important having the personal DME really is. I would be willing to bet you an autopap with humidifier, you can learn far more about using and selecting a CPAP on this site, than even the best DME could ever begin to offer you.

Good Luck with taking charge of your health.

Yes I have insurance, in fact I recieved a letter from my insurance the other day stating that I have a cpap rental aproval.

As far as the DME comming to my hone I'm very new to this subject and I kinda just following along on what the dr. told me...

I mean after you get an RX from your Dr. what usually is your next step....I would image the DME contacting the patient and setting your up for therapy, equipment etc etc.

Ramblinman,

You won't need the DME to come to you. The setup of the machine is simple and that's all they would do for you anyway. And if you get stuck with anything, hey, you've got all of us to give a shout out to .

Howdy RAMBLINMAN,

Depending on your insurance, you may also want to check out billmyinsurance.com. It could be a way to have your insurance pay for high end CPAP equipment.

RAMBLINMAN,

If you can "READ" (and I assume you can since you're here), you can set up your own equipment. The XPAP machine will be sent/delivered to you at what your prescription is written for (pressure settings, etc.).
As far as "renting" the equipment, you'll only get to "rent" the machine for a limited number of months until the insurance provider considers it to be "yours"......consequently, you SHOULD be able to get the make and model you want. Same thing with masks.

It might be interesting for you to go around to some of your local DME suppliers to compare prices.....then compare those prices to CPAP.COM.

Check out billmyinsurance.com, too.

Best wishes,

Den
