Re: CHIN STRAP
That is not so much an article. More of an advertisement, as I see it. The "study" it alludes to was of one patient, as I understand it.COVERER wrote:I saw this article and found it interesting. Has anyone tried this yet?

I would consider claims made in that ad to be bordering on fraud. When the newly-diagnosed see ads like that, it can prolong their period of denial as they swallow such claims hook, line, and sinker. Every person with significant OSA who delays using PAP therapy based on the misleading claims of people trying to make a quick buck is one more person with a miserable life doing damage to his/her own health because of an ad. A person with very mild OSA may be helped by non-CPAP methods, sure, and such methods may be better than nothing at all for some others, and those methods may have some value in conjunction with PAP therapy to many--but suggesting to people with moderate-to-severe OSA that they don't need CPAP is doing a great disservice to humanity for the purpose of trying to make money from other people's misery, imo.

Re: CHIN STRAP
I saw the ads for this and found it on Ebay for 28.99. I did not believe the claims but thought it would be a good chin strap. I have to say it is very comfortable and seems to keep my mouth closed. Again I have to say I do not believe the claims but it does help me as a chinstrap in conjugation to my CPAP therapy

Naw, Carbonman is a nice guy so he wasn't making fun of you...he was making fun of the ad and it's promises. And yes, it's potential might be in it's use in conjunction with xpap therapy as a means to keep the jaw from falling open. But you would need to be sure it didn't actually make things worse by pulling your jaw back...we are all different and certain things work for one person that don't work for others.COVERER wrote: Wow did my question make me sound that dumb? My husband brought that ad to me and said, "see, you could have been saving all that time and money...ha ha ha".

Re: CHIN STRAP
In response to its effectiveness. I have limited data I do not down load my data (I know I problay should) but from the numbers from the machine. My average AHI is down a point from 2.5 to 1.4 and my leak rate is almost zero. Since using this chinstrap. I have not noticed it pulling my jaw back. I think it may depend on how you wear it. The position does not seem that different from any other chin strap I have tried. And I have tried a bunch in my long history of CPAP use 8 months
