nasal pillows
nasal pillows
I am a new CPAP user with a few questions. I use the ResMed S8 Elite II system with Mirage Swift Nasal Pillows. Does any one have nasal soreness and red irration from the nasal pillow. I am currently using a humidifer on the CPAP.
Re: nasal pillows
I use the swift LT, and any soreness I have is very minor. It's only a bit sensitive when I need to go digging around in there, and only on one side. Try some lansinoh, and try easing off a bit on the straps. I was quite surprised to find just how loose I could get the headgear without any problems.
Good luck!

Re: nasal pillows
Thanks inearnest for your reply. My sorness and redness is outside of nose. I will try loosening the straps tonight to see if helps. Thanks

Lansenoh....prevents irritation.....aids in sealing. Available at your local drugstore....in the "nursing mom" section.
I use it every night....GREAT stuff. Highly recommended!

Re: nasal pillows
It has already been said here and I second, third, fourth, whatever...get some Lansinoh lanolin cream for breastfeeding mothers...my husband was nice enough to get the folks at Target to scour the place for it...they had 18 tubes of it once they found it
The first night with my Swift LT for Her, I could only stand the agony of a very sore nose for 3 hours...made sure I had the lanolin before the next night and would not use my Swift without it. Works great.

Re: nasal pillows
inernest is right - it is amazing how loose you can have the straps and still have a good fit. I found that the only time I had any soreness or redness was the first few weeks when still fiddling around with the fit. Now - all I get are some slight indentations on my chubby littke cheeks - and they are gone by the time i am oput of the shower.
Hang in there!

.
I think EVERYONE has irritated nares when first starting on CPAP Mask Pillows . . . until the nares toughen up a bit. With that said, I agree that the BEST thing I've found is Lansinoh Lanolin. Apply it to cover the outside of the pillow thingys, and dab a little in the nares where sore. It is very healing . . . and helps prevent leaks in the pillow's seal.

Yep--like JoyD said----I think EVERYONE has irritated nares when first starting on CPAP Mask Pillows . . . until the nares toughen up. They will get used to the air but it will take awhile. If it does not go away soon, you may try a different size nasal pillow and be sure to loosen up those straps. It really is amazing that the straps can be very loose and still maintain a great seal. Good Luck --you have the best and most comfortable mask out there!!!!
