AND..... what do you eat a few hours before bedtime ? May be too much sweets,(specially choc's) dairy products -milk, cheese, yoghurts ? Puddings ? Pastries ? Pies ? (yes, pies)
I do this all the time ! ! ! naughty, naughty ! one sinumax allergy tablet helps very quickly - but...(as they say) you are what you eat - I try not to eat wrong foods on a Monday !

If you are having allergy problems, check your system to make sure you have a regular and a viral filter and that they are both clean. If the nasal saline works, why don't you try Ayr which is an ointment of saline that helps lubricate the nares.
I basically don't have mucus. My stuffiness appears to be inflammation more so than mucus. Also, now that I gave it 3 nights trying the cpap without water, I can say that it only marginally helped. Maybe a 10 percent improvement. ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS WILL BE APPRECIATED BY ALL.

Gary,

Hawthorne and I tried giving you a suggestion before.......use distilled water in your humidifier tank but NO HEAT. As I said, I even keep my distilled water in the refrigerator so it's even cooler. It adds a little humidity to the air and cools the air even more.

I should have been more specific with my last reply. I have been putting iun the distilled water and using it as a passover humidifier. And I do keep my distilled water in the fridge.

Thanks,
Gary

OK. We were reading it that you were not using the humidifier at all.

I have major stuffy nose problems, and they started with CPAP. I'm not sure why. Anyway, I use the Nasonex (prescription) and Neil Med Sinus Rinse and Ayr gel.
I start doing these treatments at about 7PM, first the rinse, then the spray then the gel.
I use no humidity and no heat.
I can sleep all night without stuffiness. I just make darned sure I'm clear before bed.
I did have an allergy test, and I'm allergic to dust and mold. But it never bothered me before CPAP. I think the vessels in the nose are inflamed from the constant pressure of the air from the machine. Like you, I ususally have no problems until night time.
I'll live with it, because I can't live without my CPAP!
All the best,
Lee Lee

Just to say that I interpreted what you said about "no humidity" the same way Wulfman did. You said "no humidity". He and I suggested "passover humidity". You really meant you had tried "passover humidity".

"No humidity" is no water and no heat (maybe even no humidifier connected to the machine or even near it). "Passover humidity is water but no heat turned in. It is still humidity.

Just a clarification.

Keep trying Gary! Some good suggestions for you in this thread! Try them all! Good luck!

I actually do not even use passover humidity. Well, every now and then it the coldest winter.
It makes me cough!
I may try again to use passover, since that may be one of the reasons my nasal passages are so dry...hmmm

Have you tried using a Neti Pot? Some find it helps things to remain clear.

I have had 2 colds since getting my CPAP and I find that it helps me to breath better than I did before I had CPAP and a cold. The pressure seems to help get air through when even normal breathing doesn't. I like that.

Gary:

I fight stuffy nose all the time due to allergies. I use Allegra and Nasacort AQ nasal spray. I also use the NeilMed nasal rinse and then for all other times I am using a homemade nasal spray. In a empty and clean nasacort spray bottle I put three full eye droppers of Ponaris Nasal Emollient, it's not Rx but is usually behind the counter @ Walgreen's and then fill the bottle the rest of the way with Equate/Ocean Spray Nasal Spray. Whenever I feel nasal congestion coming on I use the spray 3-4 sprays in eash nostril. Helps with my congestion. When I put on my Swift LT I sit on the edge of the bed, turn on the machine, get the pillows adjusted then at the end of each exhale for 3-4 times I swallow, by then I am breathing free through the nose and cpap wisks me away to sleep.

Do your own research on Ponaris if you are uneasy about it. I've using it with my Dr.''s knowledge and ok for over a year now.

Good luck

Could be -- if you're allergic to the new down comforter your wife just bought for your bed. Or the new carpeting in your bedroom. Or the new hairspray your wife is using . . . you catch my drift!

I wonder if there's anything you can take to reduce the swelling of the membranes???
You might need a good ENT to help you out with this and consider Nasal Surgery! I had it a year and a half ago and it wasn't all that bad, my nose never ran, I just felt clogged up all the time but couldn't blow my nose because it was useless, nothing would ever come out, and yes laying down was the worst.
I had double a Deveated Septum & double turbinate reduction surgery in Nov. of 2007 and I never have that problem again .
And the answer to your question is YES, you can have allergies and not have a runny nose, sneezing, watery eyes or coughing, I didn't have any of those symptoms, just occasional headaches and alot of pressure in my head, especially while going up in the mountains or climing a steep grade (higher elevations), etc.... it was horrible, but now it's all good!
I do hope you feel better soon.

Gary,

Can you fit a Breathe Right strip under your mask? I tried that the other night when I was so stuffed up from working outdoors that I couldn't breathe at all through my nose. Unfortunately, the plastic strips broke loose from the tape during the night and caused my Activa to leak, waking me up. I had to remove the strip, but by that time my nose was clear enough to breathe on my own.

It's worth a shot. They are expensive to use every night, but so worth it to be able to breathe.

Absolutely. Even during summer vacations in Myrtle Beach (where it is VERY humid), my nose gets dried out and stuffy without heated humidification. In the summer I turn the humidifier heat setting as low as it goes, but not off.
