Now, where is he suggesting you trim? I think I know now what you're talking about. But if you're holding it, about ready to put in your mouth, is he talking about the edge of the tongue shelf or the top, where the underside of the tongue would rest at night? I think you're going to tell me the edge, so that the line in the tongue has more room to move forward and won't push the whole mouthpiece off your front teeth, into your lips. And what did he suggest you use on the dremmel to accomplish that?

A dremmel is like a power drill in that it has different attachment tips to accomplish different jobs. There are sandpaper file tips and actual tips that will cut away at something like a tiny saw. Did he tell you which to use? That might help me come up with an idea. And did you email him? I would have done that immediately before it got too late. It still may be early enought to catch him if he has later office hours and then reads his email. Givr it a shot in the meantime.

Yup, Lori, you described it! I'm suppose to cut it so that the tongue has a little more room. This is needed for exactly that reason you described!
Dr. Sue e-mailed back that i need some sort of round-cut tool . Perhaps some rounded end nail clippers.. How much does one of these drummels cost? What do people typically buy them for anyway?

http://search.ebay.com//search/search.d ... le=dremmel

This is a page from eBay for inexpensive dremmels, some ending soon. You won't have it tonight, but Sears and Home Depot unfortunately charges like $60-100 for one (unless you do a dishonest deed, use it and bring it back). I just asked my husband where you could get a cheap one and he said it would have to be ordered online.

Now I don't want to lead you don't a path that may ruin your NB, so I am reluctant to suggest anything other than borrowing one from maybe a friend or neighbor, if you know someone who loves their tools and would probably have one. It takes all of two minutes to do what you're going to have to do. But if you can't figure out anyone who might have one, why couldn't you take a knife or even a rounded spoon and put it in a flame and cut away (melt actually) that part that he wants you to remove? Is it the edge of the NB? I just don't want to see you end up with anything rough that might bother your tongue if it's not cut smoothly enough. That's why I would think a heated spoon which is round to begin with might be an idea. MIGHT BE, I repeat.

You didn't answer if you tried to email him at this time. I would still try. I'm so sorry that you're going through this. We wait so long to get it from him and then it's not perfect (what ever is?). But so much so that you're unable to use it.

Okay, My husband just handed me a catalogue from a great tool company called Harbor Freight Tools. They have a 12 volt rotary tool set (dremmel) for $9.99. You can call 1 800 423-2567 24 hours, 7 days a week and order it from them. Maybe they can do an overnight shipping.

They are reputable and a company you can trust, where with eBay you take a risk every time. The item number is 41695-2BTA, on page 6 of their catalogue. You can also go online to http://www.harborfreight.com and see the item for yourself.

Let me know how you make out. I wish you the best.

It's ordered!
Please, let hubby know that his efforts were not wasted!
The lady said I should get it in 2 -3 days. (Now don't be shocked if I send out another SOS when it gets here! Just kidding... I hope! )

Send away if you need me. I am always happy when I can help. I will tell my husband you ordered from them. You just saved yourself a lot of money by doing so. And with all the waiting we did for the NB overall, what's another two or three days? Please keep me posted. I would love to hear how you made out.

DSM,

I have been using mine now for about four nights or so and no mouth breathing at all. However, I am waking up with headaches again and I wonder if it could be causing a TMJ situation. I am going to write to Dr. Sue about it. When I wake up in the morning, only for a few minutes, the back of my mouth, where the NB doesn't cover, the gums feel a bit swollen and I fear I may be biting down on it harder than I should, although I have no control over it while asleep. As far as solving the mouth breathing, it works.

Yours should be there in 4-6 days from the time you get the email. Although being in Australia, I don't know if that will apply. It was being sent from Hawaii to NY in my case, so I am unsure how long it will take for yours to get to you. Let me know how you like it when you get it.
